Quick Answer
- Scan one crashed ARC Probe and one ARC Courier to reach the prototype stage.
- Choose one of the four prototype sites rather than planning a four-map collection route.
- On Riven Tides, search beneath the small bridge at the southern end of the Dried Riverbed.
- Install ARC Performance Steel, Pop Trigger, ARC Synthetic Resin, and ARC Thermo Lining, then activate the prototype.
- Claim 8,000 XP and three each of ARC Performance Steel, ARC Thermo Lining, and ARC Synthetic Resin.
To The Skies Requirements
- Complete Off The Radar and accept To The Skies from Apollo.
- Choose a surface map for the Probe and Courier scans.
- Prepare one of each of the four named materials for your chosen prototype.
- Carry healing and ammunition for the journeys between wrecks, the prototype, and extraction.
The opening objectives are the two scans, but the quest continues into prototype repairs afterward. A free loadout can help limit equipment risk while searching for wrecks, but it does not replace the four-part repair kit.
Carry the actual materials to the prototype. Keeping them in your stash or finishing a scan does not place them into the machine.
Stage 1: Scan a Crashed ARC Probe and an ARC Courier
Look for black smoke above crashed ARC wrecks and check your map as you approach for a nearby wreck icon. Couriers are larger than Probes, and the quest needs a scan of each type.
- Search a surface map for a crashed ARC Probe.
- Use its scan interaction and confirm the Probe objective is complete.
- Locate an ARC Courier and complete its separate scan interaction.
- Check the quest tracker for the Gondola Prototype objectives after both scans.
Scan before searching the wreck for materials, then inspect the loot you actually collected. A Probe scan and a Courier scan are separate from the later repair interactions.
An Electromagnetic Storm offers more crashed ARC opportunities, but it also makes searching and traveling more hazardous. Check the map conditions guide before choosing the deployment, and do not depend on a wreck appearing at a fixed spot.
Stage 2: Find a Gondola Prototype
You only need one Gondola Prototype. These four search areas are alternatives, so choose a site that fits your deployment instead of trying to repair every machine.
| Map | Zone | Landmark | Nearby extraction to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dam Battlegrounds | Red Lakes | Northeast of Red Lakes Balcony, east of Control Tower and Research & Administration, and north of Testing Annex. | Check the Red Lakes Raider Hatch beside the prototype first, with the Testing Annex cargo elevator to the south as a fallback. |
| The Blue Gate | Farmlands | Southwest of Ruined Homestead, southeast of Olive Grove, and west of Ancient Fort. | Raider Hatch northwest of Ruined Homestead, or Airshaft farther northwest by Highway Collapse. |
| Spaceport | East Plains | South of East Plains Warehouses and north of Communications Tower, on boxes beside a makeshift wooden shelter. | Eastern cargo elevator immediately west of the prototype. |
| Riven Tides | Dried Riverbed | Under the small stone bridge at the southern end, west/southwest of Customs House. | Customs House cargo elevator to the northeast. |
Check these nearby exit options on your live raid map rather than assuming they are active. They are not ranked by distance and do not guarantee a safe route. A Raider Hatch requires a Raider Hatch Key.
Dam Battlegrounds: Northeast of Red Lakes Balcony
Search northeast of Red Lakes Balcony, east of Control Tower and Research & Administration, and north of Testing Annex. The prototype sits beside the concrete Red Lakes Raider Hatch. Check that Hatch first for extraction, with the Testing Annex cargo elevator to the south as a fallback.
The Blue Gate: Southwest of Ruined Homestead
In the Farmlands, search southwest of Ruined Homestead, southeast of Olive Grove, and west of Ancient Fort. For extraction, check the Raider Hatch northwest of Ruined Homestead or the Airshaft farther northwest by Highway Collapse.
Spaceport: Between East Plains Warehouses and Communications Tower
Look south of East Plains Warehouses and north of Communications Tower. The prototype is on boxes beside a makeshift wooden shelter. The eastern cargo elevator is immediately west of the prototype, so check it on your raid map before planning your exit.
Riven Tides: Use the Small Bridge at the Dried Riverbed
Follow the Dried Riverbed to the small stone bridge at its southern end. The prototype sits below the bridge in the channel, west/southwest of Customs House, near wooden panels and crates. The objective says "top", but use the southern bridge, not the northern end.
- Reach the southern end of the Dried Riverbed and locate the small bridge crossing the channel.
- Move down beside the bridge and search the space beneath it.
- Approach the prototype until its location objective registers.
- Use this machine for the installation sequence that follows.
The bridge gives you a clear target for the Riven Tides route. Once you start this repair, finish the installations and activation here rather than making a detour to another map's prototype.
Install the Four ARC Materials and Activate It
The Gondola Prototype needs all four materials, not only a Pop Trigger and ARC Synthetic Resin. Work through each named installation and use the separate activation after the repair objectives are complete.
The quest objective calls the item ARC Pop Trigger, but the inventory and INSTALL POP TRIGGER prompt use Pop Trigger.
At the Spaceport prototype in East Plains, install the Pop Trigger at one side interaction and ARC Synthetic Resin at another side interaction. Use the top for ARC Thermo Lining and the back for ARC Performance Steel. Move around the machine and follow each named installation prompt.
- Install one ARC Performance Steel at the prototype.
- Install one Pop Trigger at its matching interaction.
- Install one ARC Synthetic Resin at the resin interaction.
- Install one ARC Thermo Lining at its matching interaction.
- Activate the Gondola Prototype after all four installations register.
- Move clear of the machine and check the final quest update.
The resin interaction uses INSTALL SYNTHETIC RESIN. Check the active material objective at each step rather than treating the first successful installation as the entire repair.
Where to Get the Four ARC Materials
Set aside one of each part for the prototype repair. The following targets give you a useful scavenging plan without requiring a boss fight for every material.
| Material | Amount to Bring | Salvage Targets |
|---|---|---|
| ARC Performance Steel | 1 | Bastions, Bombardiers, Leapers, Baron Husks |
| Pop Trigger | 1 | Pops, ARC Couriers |
| ARC Synthetic Resin | 1 | ARC Probes, Baron Husks |
| ARC Thermo Lining | 1 | Pops, Fireballs, Wasps |
ARC Performance Steel
Check larger ARC wrecks such as Bastions, Bombardiers, and Leapers, or search a Baron Husk along your route. A wreck you can already reach is a better first stop than starting a dangerous fight for a single part.
Pop Trigger
Search downed Pops and ARC Couriers for the trigger. Keep one for the prototype rather than spending or selling it while the scan objectives are still active.
ARC Synthetic Resin
Search ARC Probes and Baron Husks for the resin. It recycles into Plastic Parts, so retain the original material until you have completed the prototype repair.
ARC Thermo Lining
Check Pops, Fireballs, and Wasps for ARC Thermo Lining. Loot availability varies, so check your inventory after each search rather than counting a destroyed machine as a collected part.
The scan stage is a natural opportunity to gather supplies from wrecks. Before you travel to the prototype, check that you have each named item rather than simply four ARC materials of any kind.
Check the materials service options before your prototype run.
When a Gondola Install Prompt Is Missing
Bring all four materials and aim to finish the installations and activation at one prototype in a single visit. Players have reported missing repair prompts after returning to a partly repaired machine, so do not plan your route around leaving individual installations for another raid.
- Open the tracker and identify which named material still needs installing.
- Check that the matching material is in your current raid inventory.
- Move around the prototype to find the corresponding repair interaction.
- Complete the remaining material prompts before looking for activation.
Do not keep using more of a part that the tracker already marks complete. Finding the machine, installing each material, and activating it are separate tasks. If the correct interaction stays missing, returning to the same prototype or changing maps is not a guaranteed fix. Avoid spending another full repair kit on repeated attempts.
How to Extract and Turn In
After activating the prototype, take an available extraction and return to Apollo in Speranza. On Riven Tides, check the Customs and Seaside elevator options on your raid map and choose an active exit that fits your position.
- Confirm that all four installations and Activate Gondola Prototype are complete.
- Choose an active extraction and begin the journey away from the prototype.
- Leave with the loot you want to retain.
- Return to Apollo and claim To The Skies.
Keep enough time for the return journey instead of spending the final minutes checking unrelated wrecks. The gondola test and your own extraction are different parts of the route.
To The Skies Rewards
| Reward | Type | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 8,000 XP | Experience | Completion XP. |
| 3 ARC Performance Steel | Material | Three of a material used in the prototype repair. |
| 3 ARC Thermo Lining | Material | Three of a material used in the prototype repair. |
| 3 ARC Synthetic Resin | Material | Three of a material used in the prototype repair. |
The payout replenishes three of the four material types requested by the repair. There is no Pop Trigger in this reward bundle.
Nearby Quests and What Comes After
To The Skies ends with the prototype test and Apollo's reward hand-in. Off The Radar comes before it, so start there when planning the progression into this task.
For a Red Lakes deployment, Celeste's Journals, A Symbol of Unification, and Water Troubles offer other objectives around that wider area. Check their individual requirements before combining a route.
The Blue Gate Farmlands also contains the Ruined Homestead used by the Outpost photo task. That is a separate activity, not another prototype you must repair.
The prototype story connects to the gondolas serving Pendola Pass. After the hand-in, use the ARC Raiders quest hub to choose your next accepted mission.
Finish the Prototype Test
Prepare the four materials, complete both scans, and commit to one prototype. On Riven Tides, use the bridge over the southern Dried Riverbed as your landmark and finish the activation after the installations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you replace ARC Synthetic Resin with Plastic Parts?
No. The installation asks for ARC Synthetic Resin itself, not the material it becomes when recycled. Keep the resin until the repair is finished so you do not arrive with the wrong item despite having looted it earlier.
Should you repeat the scans after reaching the prototype stage?
Follow the active prototype objectives once the two scans are complete. The next work is finding a machine, installing its named materials, and activating it, rather than collecting another set of Probe and Courier scans.
Do you have to destroy a boss for the repair kit?
No boss kill is a quest objective here. Search smaller ARC and accessible wrecks for the required materials, and use the salvage targets above to plan the parts you still need before committing to the prototype route.
Does scanning a Courier also finish the Probe objective?
No. They are separate wreck types with separate scan objectives. Check both entries in the tracker so you do not leave the search area with one completed scan and mistake it for the end of the first stage.
