Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin Trophy Guide and Platinum Walkthrough

This Dark Souls 2 trophy guide covers the PS4 Scholar of the First Sin edition and its mandatory DLC spells. Expect 80 to 100 hours focused on collection, covenant farming, and NPC planning rather than extreme boss difficulty. Similar PlayStation trophy guides use the same roadmap-first structure.

Major boss names, locations, and NPC outcomes appear below.

Updated July 2026

Quick Info

Difficulty 6 / 10
Time to Platinum 80-100 hours
Trophies 38 total: 12 Bronze, 23 Silver, 2 Gold, 1 Platinum
Playthroughs 2.5, ending after Chancellor Wellager in NG++
Online Trophies None. Online co-op can shorten covenant farming, but the platinum is fully obtainable offline.
Missable Trophies About 3 directly missable trophies, plus several NPC and spell lockouts
Difficulty affects trophies? No difficulty setting. Company of Champions and Bonfire Intensity can make areas harder.
Hardest Trophy Master of Miracles, due to covenant rewards, NG+ items, DLC spells, and the NG++ purchase
Glitched Trophies None confirmed. Rare bonfire or covenant trophy-pop issues are reported, so keep a backup save.

Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin Platinum Roadmap

1

Phase 1: Complete New Game and Protect Every NPC Quest

Use one character for every spell. Recruit the seven residents for Gathering of Exiles, collect all 20 gestures, discover all nine trophy covenants, and finish Lucatiel and Benhart before their final conversations. Do not pull Navlaan's lever in Aldia's Keep.

Collect every available spell. Reach Heirs of the Sun rank 3 for Sunlight Spear, Bell Keepers rank 2 for Hidden Weapon, and finish Pilgrims of Dark for Climax. Collect the 11 mandatory DLC spells.

Finish the story, collect the Ashen Mist Heart, and defeat Vendrick with at least four Souls of a Giant. Before NG+, confirm Curious Map, Gathering of Exiles, Lucatiel, Moonlight Greatsword, Gesture Maestro, and all New Game NPC rewards.

2

Phase 2: Collect NG+ Boss-Soul Spells and Finish the Second Cycle

Four Great Soul bosses drop additional souls at NG+ intensity. Trade the Old Witch Soul for Flame Weapon, Old King Soul for Blinding Bolt, Old Dead One's Soul for Numbness, and Old Paledrake Soul for Crystal Soul Spear. Ascetics can produce them earlier, but natural NG+ is simpler.

Finish the second playthrough with every spell on the same character. This cycle is faster because exploration, covenants, DLC work, and NPC trophies are already complete.

3

Phase 3: Reach Chancellor Wellager in NG++

Begin the third cycle and reach Drangleic Castle. Chancellor Wellager sells Wrath of the Gods, Bountiful Sunlight, and Great Chaos Fireball in true NG++. Bonfire Ascetics do not replace this cycle requirement.

Buy the three spells, check each mastery category, and collect any remaining trophy. You do not need to finish NG++.

How Many Playthroughs and Does NG+ Matter?

The platinum needs two completed playthroughs and part of a third. NG+ supplies four boss souls for spell trades, while NG++ adds three covenant spells to Wellager's inventory.

Bonfire Ascetics can provide higher-tier boss souls or repeat NPC summon fights. They cannot unlock Wellager's NG++ stock, and each use permanently raises that area's intensity.

Spells, Covenants and Gestures Overview

All spells of each type must be held on one character. You only need to own them, so a melee build can earn every mastery trophy without meeting their casting requirements.

DLC Spells Required for the Platinum

Crown of the Old Iron King Fire Snake, Dance of Fire, Outcry, Recollection
Crown of the Ivory King Soul Flash, Splintering Lightning Spear, Dark Dance

Gestures and Covenant Rewards

You begin with eight gestures and must learn 12 more: Welcome, Duel Bow, Joy, Mock, Fist Pump, Praise the Sun!, Prostration, Decapitate, Warmup, This One's Me, Have Mercy!, and Hurrah. Exhaust dialogue with the relevant NPC whenever a gesture option appears.

The critical covenant rewards are Sunlight Spear from 30 Sunlight Medals, Hidden Weapon from 30 Bell Keeper victories, and Climax from completing all three Dark Chasms plus Darklurker. Finishing Pilgrims of Dark or Heirs of the Sun also satisfies Selfless Giver.

Online and Covenant Notes

Every trophy can be earned offline. Co-op speeds up Sunlight Medals, while Falconers provide the offline route. Join Heirs of the Sun, raise item discovery, and farm 30 medals.

For Hidden Weapon, join Bell Keepers and defeat the Mad Warrior in Belfry Sol 30 times. Clear nearby enemies, rest between checks, and use Unveil when available.

Soul Memory controls most matchmaking, and Straid's Agape Ring stops further gain while equipped. It is more restrictive than the password system in Dark Souls Remastered, but it does not affect an offline route.

General Tips and Build for the Platinum

01

Use a Simple PvE Build

A standard +10 Rapier or Mace handles the route and unlocks Supreme Weapon. Prioritize Vigor and Endurance, then raise Adaptability or Attunement until Agility reaches about 99 to 105. Carry a bow for pulling enemies.

Use a Soul Vessel for NPC checks. Carhillion needs 8 Intelligence, while Felkin needs 8 Intelligence and 8 Faith. His Sunset Staff proof for Navlaan needs 20 in both. Flexible stats also work in Elden Ring, though Dark Souls 2 values Agility more.

02

Manage Despawns, Ascetics, and Limited Items

Most normal enemies despawn after roughly 12 defeats. Company of Champions prevents this and strengthens them, so use it only for farming and leave afterward.

Do not consume boss souls before checking every spell trade. Track Ascetics, Fragrant Branches, Smelter Wedges, and Soul of Nadalia fragments. Back up before NG+ or irreversible NPC actions.

03

Keep Boss Strategy Practical

NPC summons ease most bosses, but Lucatiel and Benhart must survive for quest credit. The Redeye Ring helps keep boss attention on you.

For Vendrick, carry four or five Souls of a Giant and circle the leg opposite his sword. Against Darklurker, use lightning or fire, save stamina for the split, and avoid openings covered by both copies.

DLC Trophy Notes

Scholar of the First Sin has no separate DLC trophy packs, but its mastery trophies require 11 expansion spells. You can skip optional DLC bosses and items once every listed spell is secured.

Missable Trophies in Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin

Do Not Release Royal Sorcerer Navlaan Early

Leave Navlaan's lever untouched. Speak while hollow and show proof items instead of killing Gilligan, Cale, Felkin, or the Emerald Herald. Use the Ladder Miniature, Cale's Helm, Sunset Staff, and Aged Feather to earn Forbidden Sun and Unleash Magic safely.

Finish Lucatiel and Benhart Before Their Final Dialogue

Lucatiel must survive three qualifying boss victories before you finish her conversation at Aldia's Keep. Benhart needs three surviving victories before his final Memory of Orro dialogue. Bonfire Ascetics can repeat one suitable boss three times, but the area becomes harder with each use.

Secure Gathering of Exiles Before Killing Licia

Move Melentia, Cale, Licia, Carhillion, Rosabeth, Chloanne, and Gilligan to Majula. Keep other core residents alive, and earn Gathering of Exiles before using the Crushed Eye Orb against Licia for Soothing Sunlight.

Keep Cale alive until Curious Map is complete. Its eight flames are tied to the Last Giant, four Great Soul bosses, King's Ring, Ashen Mist Heart, and Throne Watcher and Defender. Speak to him after all flames are lit.

Hardest Trophies and How to Get Them

01

Master of Miracles

This is the longest single checklist. Secure Sunlight Spear from 30 Sunlight Medals, Soothing Sunlight from Licia, Blinding Bolt from the NG+ Old King Soul, and both Denial and Splintering Lightning Spear from the DLC. Buy Wrath of the Gods and Bountiful Sunlight from Wellager in NG++.

02

Master of Sorcery and Master of Hexes

Hidden Weapon requires 30 Bell Keeper victories, usually through the offline Mad Warrior farm. Unleash Magic depends on Navlaan's missable quest. Climax requires all three Dark Chasms and Darklurker, while Numbness and Crystal Soul Spear require NG+ boss souls.

03

Lucatiel and Moonlight Greatsword

These trophies fail through timing rather than combat. Exhaust each NPC's earlier dialogue, summon them for three victories, and make sure they survive. Repeat an easy fight with Bonfire Ascetics when necessary, then take the final dialogue only after the counter is complete.

Its collection route places Dark Souls 2 among the hardest PlayStation platinums, although upgrades and summons keep most bosses manageable.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to platinum Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin?

The platinum takes around 80 to 100 hours across two full cycles and part of NG++.

How hard is the Dark Souls 2 platinum?

It is about 6/10, with route discipline and covenant grinding posing more trouble than the bosses.

Can you get the Dark Souls 2 platinum offline?

Yes. Every trophy and covenant reward has an offline route, although online co-op can speed up Sunlight Medal farming.

How many playthroughs are needed to platinum Dark Souls 2?

You need 2.5 playthroughs because three covenant spells only appear in Chancellor Wellager's inventory in NG++.

Are there missable trophies in Dark Souls 2?

Yes. Early NPC kills or final conversations can delay Navlaan's spells, Gathering of Exiles, Lucatiel, Moonlight Greatsword, and other rewards.

Does Scholar of the First Sin require the DLC for the platinum?

Yes. There are no separate DLC trophies, but 11 DLC spells are required across the four spell-mastery trophies.

What is the hardest trophy in Dark Souls 2?

Master of Miracles is the hardest because it combines covenant farming, an NPC reward, NG+ progression, DLC exploration, and the NG++ Wellager purchase.

The route is longer than Lords of the Fallen, but one protected NPC roster and spell checklist keep it controlled. DamnModz PlayStation trophy services support targeted cleanup for a blocked covenant reward, spell, or platinum.
