Efficient route

The Last of Us Part 2 Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap

Follow these phases in order to protect the missable work and keep the The Last of Us Part 2 Platinum cleanup efficient.

1

Phase 0: Check whether you need to play at all

If you already have the PS4 platinum, copy that save to your PS5 by USB or PS Plus cloud and load the platinum save. Every trophy including the platinum and the Grounded DLC will pop.

This only works PS4 to PS5. There is no mechanism to import a save into the PS4 release, so the reverse is not possible.

If you want to earn the Remastered trophies properly, do not transfer the save.

2

Phase 1: Story playthrough on any difficulty

There are no difficulty trophies for the platinum, so play on whatever setting you like. Nothing is missable.

Collect as you go. The trophy list is almost entirely collectibles, and the game has a built-in collectible tracking feature that shows what you are missing.

Hold your supplements and weapon parts rather than spending them as you find them. This sets up the upgrade trophies properly in the next phase.

Keep a manual save from the last chapter. Losing it costs you chapter select access, which is how all cleanup happens.

3

Phase 2: New Game Plus and the upgrade trophies

Start New Game Plus. All progress carries over, upgrades, supplements, weapon parts and collectibles, so roughly half a run is enough.

Before upgrading, make a manual save. Then fully upgrade Ellie's weapons and skills and save again before doing Abby's.

This save discipline exists because multiple players report these trophies failing to unlock, and having reload points is the only documented recovery.

Finish any outstanding collectibles using chapter select and the tracking feature.

The platinum should land here, at roughly 40 to 50 hours total.

4

Phase 3: Grounded and Permadeath, for 100 percent only

Neither is required for the platinum. Lead this section with that.

Enable Enhanced Listen Mode under navigation and traversal accessibility options. It makes locating enemies on Grounded far easier and does not affect trophies.

Note that New Game Plus uses plus difficulties, which are harder than the standard equivalents, so plan which run you attempt Grounded on.

5

Phase 4: No Return, PS5 Remastered only

Not required for the platinum, and only available on the Remastered version. The PS5 upgrade is a paid upgrade rather than crossbuy.

Budget 11 full runs minimum, a win with each of the 10 characters plus one Grounded daily run, plus partial runs to unlock characters and clear the Ellie and Abby challenge tracks.

The hardest trophy is May Your Death Be Swift, winning a daily run on Grounded. Accessibility options are permitted and make it considerably more approachable.

Work the smaller trophies alongside the character wins, an S rank on an encounter, five gambits in one run, all bosses, every mod, and the safe in Capture without killing anyone.

This is the only part of the game with a genuine service fit. One soft mention of DamnModz belongs here, then back to run strategy.

Guide notes

If You Have the PS4 Platinum, Read This First

Copy your PS4 save to the PS5 console by USB or PS Plus cloud, then load the platinum save. It autopops every trophy including the platinum and the Grounded mode DLC. It does not work in the other direction. That is a free second platinum, and No Return sits on a separate DLC list so it does not block the pop.

Guide notes

Platinum vs 100 Percent

Two very different targets. The base platinum is a 2 out of 10 collectible sweep with no difficulty trophies and nothing missable. Full completion is an 8 out of 10 requiring Grounded, Permadeath and the No Return set.

Guide notes

Keep a Manual Save From the Last Chapter

Chapter select is how everything gets cleaned up, and access to it depends on keeping a manual save from the final chapter. Losing that is an avoidable, self-inflicted problem.

Guide notes

The Upgrade Trophies Problem

The community workaround is to hold your supplements and parts until the end, then save before upgrading Ellie and save again before upgrading Abby, so you have reload points if a trophy does not pop. No guide body covers this.

Guide notes

Grounded and Permadeath

Two DLC trophies on the base list, not required for the platinum. Note the accessibility workaround, Enhanced Listen Mode under navigation and traversal makes Grounded far more manageable, and New Game Plus uses plus difficulties which are harder than the standard ones.

Efficient route

No Return, the Real 100 Percent

PS5 Remastered only. 11 full runs minimum, a win with each of the 10 characters plus one Grounded daily run, plus extra partial runs to unlock characters and finish challenge tracks. The hardest trophy is May Your Death Be Swift for a Grounded daily run, and accessibility options can be used.

1

The No Return Trophy List

Roll Call, Modded, Risk Taker, Burglar, Good Riddance, Team Ellie, Team Abby, True Strength, May Your Survival Be Long and May Your Death Be Swift, plus the trophies added in the April 2025 update.

2

Lost Levels

Included in the Remaster as cut content.

3

Not Part I

Cross-link our The Last of Us page, which covers Part I, Remastered and the PS3 original, and note the key difference, Part II has no multiplayer at all so there is no server dependency.

Guide notes

The Last of Us Part 2 Missable, Glitched, and Difficulty Notes

  • No missable trophies. Chapter select is available after the story and the game tracks collectibles for you, showing exactly what is outstanding.
  • The one self-inflicted risk is losing chapter select access. Keep a manual save from the final chapter.
  • Difficulty does not affect the platinum at all. Grounded and Permadeath are separate DLC trophies and are not required.
  • No Return trophies are on a separate DLC list and are not required for the platinum, which is also why they do not block a transferred save from popping the platinum.
  • The fully-upgrade weapons and skills trophies have been reported as failing to unlock, with readers repeating around 1.5 playthroughs. Hold your supplements and parts, then save before upgrading each character.
  • PS4 to PS5 save transfer autopops all trophies including the platinum and the Grounded DLC. It does not work in reverse.
  • New Game Plus uses plus difficulties, which are harder than the standard versions of the same setting.
  • There is no multiplayer at all, so unlike some older PlayStation titles there is no server dependency and no risk of the platinum becoming unobtainable.
  • The No Return trophy set has grown twice, 13 at Remaster launch and 3 more in April 2025, so verify the current total before publishing a count.

Quick answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need No Return for The Last of Us Part 2 platinum?

No. The Remastered platinum requires exactly the same trophies as the PS4 original. No Return sits on a separate DLC list, along with Grounded and Permadeath.

Will my PS4 save autopop the trophies on the Remastered version?

Yes. Copy the PS4 save to your PS5 by USB or PS Plus cloud and load the platinum save, and every trophy pops including the platinum and the Grounded DLC. It does not work in reverse.

How long does it take to platinum The Last of Us Part 2?

Around 40 to 50 hours. That is one full playthrough plus roughly half a New Game Plus run to finish the upgrade trophies.

How hard is The Last of Us Part 2 platinum?

A 2 out of 10 for the base platinum, which is almost entirely collectibles. Full 100 percent completion is an 8 out of 10 because of Grounded mode and No Return.

Are there missable trophies in The Last of Us Part 2?

None. Chapter select plus built-in collectible tracking means nothing can be permanently lost, as long as you keep a manual save from the last chapter.

Why didn't my upgrade trophy unlock in The Last of Us Part 2?

This is a known frustration, with players reporting the fully-upgrade trophies failing to pop. Hold your supplements and parts, then save before upgrading Ellie and again before Abby so you have reload points.

How many No Return runs do you need?

At least 11, a win with each of the 10 characters plus a Grounded daily run, and more partial runs on top to unlock characters and finish the challenge tracks.

Does The Last of Us Part 2 have multiplayer trophies?

No. Factions was cut from Part II, so there is no multiplayer component and no risk of the platinum becoming unobtainable through a server shutdown.
