Efficient route

Resident Evil 3 Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap

Follow these phases in order to protect the missable work and keep the Resident Evil 3 Platinum cleanup efficient.

1

Phase 0: Understand the rank rules

Dying does not affect your rank. Only total time, manual save count and difficulty matter.

Note the S rank thresholds, and that Hardcore's 1:45:00 limit is tighter than Inferno's 2:00:00.

Resistance is a separate trophy list, so no online play or PS Plus is needed for this platinum.

There is no chapter select, so handle collectibles deliberately during a playthrough.

2

Phase 1: Standard or Assisted, with collectibles

Play through on Standard or Assisted, taking every collectible as you go since there is no chapter select.

Destroy all Charlie dolls, read all story files, and unlock all safes, lockers, strongboxes and pickable locks.

Gather all the warehouse fuses within 5 minutes for that trophy.

Kill Zombie Brad near the RPD entrance, recognisable by his yellow vest. If you miss him, go back outside before using the detonator.

Place all three jewels in the clock tower monument. Green is in the toy store with the lock pick, blue in the supermarket opposite.

3

Phase 2: Difficulty runs and shop unlocks

Work up through Hardcore and Nightmare, banking the difficulty trophies and earning shop points.

An Inferno completion is worth 8000 points and an S rank on Nightmare or higher another 8000, so the runs fund the items.

Unlock the infinite Rocket Launcher and the other recommended shop items, which drop the whole platinum to 1 out of 10.

Remember Hardcore needs an S rank under 1:45:00 if you are taking it there, which is the tightest window in the game.

4

Phase 3: Inferno with S rank

Inferno removes the periodic autosaves Nightmare still has, reduces healing items, typewriters and item boxes, and makes Nemesis faster and harder to hit.

You need under 2:00:00 with five manual saves or fewer. Deaths do not count against you.

With the infinite Rocket Launcher and the other unlocks, this becomes a route knowledge exercise rather than a skill wall.

Jill Valentine is the rarest trophy at 7.3 percent. One soft mention of DamnModz fits here.

5

Phase 4: Cleanup and the second platinum

Do the dedicated speedrun and no-item-box runs now rather than attempting them early.

Take the remaining miscellaneous trophies with your shop unlocks equipped.

If you own both versions, transfer your save between PS4 and PS5 for a free autopop platinum.

Guide notes

Dying Does Not Affect Your Rank

First section after the Quick Info box. The rank calculation uses exactly three things, total time spent completing the game, the number of manual saves you made, and the difficulty you selected. Deaths are not part of it. That means an S rank Inferno run is a time and save management problem rather than a survival challenge, and you can die repeatedly without penalty as long as the clock and save count hold.

Guide notes

The S Rank Thresholds Are Not What You Expect

They differ by difficulty and not in the direction you would guess. Assisted needs under 2:30:00, Standard under 2:00:00, Hardcore under 1:45:00, and Nightmare or Inferno under 2:00:00, all with five manual saves or fewer. Hardcore therefore has the tightest time limit in the game, stricter than Inferno itself.

Guide notes

Resistance Is a Separate List

Resident Evil Resistance shipped bundled with this game, and every one of the 33 trophies here relates to single player mode. Resistance has its own entirely separate trophy list with its own platinum. That means you need no online play, no co-op partner and no PS Plus subscription to earn this platinum, which is the single most common question about this game.

Guide notes

PS4 to PS5 Autopop

Save transfer works between the two versions and all trophies autopop, which makes the second platinum effectively free.

Guide notes

There Is No Chapter Select

No free roam either. You can reload manual saves, which is your only way back, so the collectible trophies need handling deliberately during a playthrough rather than mopped up afterwards. That includes destroying all Charlie dolls, reading all story files, unlocking all safes, lockers, strongboxes and pickable locks, and gathering all the warehouse fuses within 5 minutes.

Guide notes

The In-Game Shop Changes Everything

Completing challenges earns points that unlock items in the in-game shop, including the infinite Rocket Launcher. Those unlocks drop the difficulty from 3 out of 10 to 1 and the time from 15 plus hours to 5 plus. The point values are substantial, with an Inferno completion worth 8000 and an S rank on Nightmare or higher also worth 8000, so the difficulty runs pay for the items that make the next run easier.

Efficient route

Zombie Brad Has Two Recoveries

An Unfortunate End looks like a one-shot missable and is not. He appears near the RPD entrance after the cutscene, recognisable by his yellow vest. If you enter the station without killing him, you can go back outside and kill him before using the detonator. And on Nightmare or Inferno you get an additional chance entirely, since he reappears at the 1F Safety Deposit Room after you collect the battery for the detonator.

1

Inferno Versus Nightmare

Inferno raises enemy aggression another notch above Nightmare and, critically, removes the periodic autosaves that Nightmare still has. It also reduces the number of healing items, typewriters and item boxes, and Nemesis becomes considerably faster, more resilient and better at dodging shots. Explain what actually changes rather than calling it harder.

2

Power Stones

Three jewels in Fancy Boxes in downtown. The green jewel is in the toy store, which needs the lock pick, and the blue is in the supermarket directly opposite the toy store. Place all three in the clock tower monument.

3

Do Not Attempt Minimalist Early

PowerPyx advises against trying the no-item-box run on a Standard first playthrough, recommending instead that you do a dedicated 60 minute speedrun once every other trophy is done.

4

Not the 1999 Original

The original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is a separate game, and the remake added collectibles that did not exist in the classic version while restructuring the levels. Disambiguate briefly.

Resident Evil 3 Missable, Glitched, and Difficulty Notes

  • There is no chapter select and no free roam, so collectibles must be handled during a playthrough. You can reload manual saves.
  • Dying does not affect your rank. Rank depends only on total time, number of manual saves and difficulty selected.
  • S rank thresholds differ by difficulty. Assisted under 2:30:00, Standard under 2:00:00, Hardcore under 1:45:00, and Nightmare or Inferno under 2:00:00, all with five saves or fewer.

Quick answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Does dying affect your rank in Resident Evil 3?

No. Rank depends only on total time, the number of manual saves and the difficulty selected. You can die as often as you like without penalty, which makes the S rank Inferno run far less daunting.

What are the S rank requirements in Resident Evil 3?

Under 2:30:00 on Assisted, under 2:00:00 on Standard, under 1:45:00 on Hardcore, and under 2:00:00 on Nightmare or Inferno, all with five manual saves or fewer.

Why is Hardcore harder to S rank than Inferno?

Because its time limit is tighter. Hardcore requires under 1:45:00 while Nightmare and Inferno allow under 2:00:00, which is the opposite of what most players assume.

Do you need Resident Evil Resistance for the platinum?

No. All 33 trophies are single player and Resistance has an entirely separate trophy list with its own platinum, so you need no online play and no PS Plus subscription.

Is there chapter select in Resident Evil 3 Remake?

No, and there is no free roam either. Reloading manual saves is your only way back, so collectibles need handling deliberately during a playthrough.

Do Resident Evil 3 trophies autopop on PS5?

Yes. Save transfer works from PS4 to PS5 and all trophies autopop, which makes the second platinum effectively free if you own both versions.

What changes on Inferno difficulty?

Enemy aggression rises another notch above Nightmare, the periodic autosaves are removed entirely, healing items, typewriters and item boxes are reduced, and Nemesis becomes faster, tougher and better at dodging.

Why can't I get the Zombie Brad trophy?

You have more chances than you think. If you entered the station without killing him, go back outside before using the detonator. On Nightmare or Inferno he also reappears at the 1F Safety Deposit Room after you get the battery.
