Efficient route

God of War (2018) Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap

Follow these phases in order to protect the missable work and keep cleanup efficient for God of War (2018).

1

Phase 1: Play the story

Play the campaign on any difficulty you enjoy. No trophy requires a harder setting, so the easiest mode is fine.

Pick up collectibles casually. Nothing is missable, and free roam opens once the story ends.

2

Phase 2: Collectibles and gear

Mop up the collectibles area by area, ravens, artifacts, dig spots, Nornir chests, the 11 Jotnar shrines and the language ciphers.

Head to Niflheim for the best armour in the game and farm the 23,500 Mist Echoes for the central chamber chests. Fully upgrade the Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos, which is only possible after the story.

3

Phase 3: Trials and Valkyries

Clear the Muspelheim trials, working through the difficulty tiers.

Take on the 8 Valkyries across the realms once your gear is strong.

4

Phase 4: Sigrun and platinum

Leave Queen Sigrun for last with fully upgraded weapons and the best armour. She is the hardest fight in the game. Beating her unlocks the final trophies and the Father and Son platinum.

Guide notes

Which God of War This Covers

This guide covers the 2018 Norse God of War starring Kratos and Atreus. It uses the PS4 trophy list, which remains playable on PS5 through backward compatibility. God of War Ragnarok and the earlier Greek-era games are separate titles with separate trophy lists and roadmaps.

Guide notes

Does Difficulty Affect Trophies

No trophy requires a specific difficulty and changing difficulty does not block the platinum. Play on Give Me a Story if the goal is an efficient completion. Queen Sigrun remains the main combat check, but the setting can be reduced before the fight without invalidating Chooser of the Slain.

  • No trophy is tied to difficulty. Play on the easiest setting if you only want the platinum.

Efficient route

The Endgame Plan

Finish the campaign first, then use open exploration to clear collectibles and build an endgame loadout. Unlock Niflheim before the hardest fights, complete the Muspelheim trials, earn the final weapon upgrades, defeat the eight realm Valkyries, and challenge Queen Sigrun only after the rest of the list is nearly complete.

  • The Muspelheim trials and Niflheim both need language ciphers to access, so collect those before planning the endgame.
1

Finish the story and reveal the map

Complete the campaign on any difficulty, activate Mystic Gateways, and open the major Lake of Nine landings. Casual collectible pickups are useful, but there is no need to interrupt the story for a perfect first pass.

2

Build in Niflheim

Unlock Niflheim, learn a repeatable path through the mist, and craft armour that provides enough level and survivability for the optional bosses. Spend Mist Echoes on the central chamber while improving the same loadout.

3

Clear trials and weapon upgrades

Complete Muspelheim's normal and impossible trials, then secure the final Frozen Flame and Chaos Flame upgrades. Fully upgraded weapons shorten every remaining Valkyrie attempt.

4

Defeat the Valkyries

Clear the eight realm Valkyries first and take their helms to the Council. Challenge Sigrun only when the build, resurrection stone, Runic attacks, and defensive timing are ready.

Efficient route

The Valkyries and Queen Sigrun

Eight Valkyries are spread across Midgard, Alfheim, Helheim, Muspelheim, and Niflheim. Defeating them opens the Queen's Council encounter with Sigrun, the ninth and hardest Valkyrie. Save her for last, enter with fully upgraded weapons and high-level Niflheim armour, and favour cooldown, Runic power, and mistake resistance over a fragile damage-only build.

  • Queen Sigrun is the hardest fight in the game. Do not attempt her until your weapons are fully upgraded and you have the best armour from Niflheim.
1

Eight realm Valkyries

Four Valkyries are in Midgard chambers, with one each in Alfheim, Helheim, Muspelheim, and Niflheim. The last two sit behind their realm activities, which is another reason to finish the endgame realms before expecting the Valkyrie set to be complete.

2

Prepare for Sigrun

Equip the highest-level armour available, fully upgrade both weapons, choose Runic attacks that are fast enough to use safely, and buy a resurrection stone. An upgrade that keeps Kratos alive through an extra mistake is usually more valuable than a small damage increase.

3

Fight the pattern

Sigrun combines attacks from the previous eight fights. Learn the visual response for each wing, projectile, dive, and unblockable attack. Use Runic damage after a confirmed opening and stop attacking early enough to defend the next sequence.

Efficient route

Muspelheim and Niflheim

Language ciphers unlock both optional realms. Niflheim is the better first stop because its repeatable maze funds high-level armour and the 23,500 Mist Echoes needed for the central chamber chests. Muspelheim then tests the finished build through normal and impossible trials, ending with the requirements tied to Fire and Brimstone.

  • Queen Sigrun is the hardest fight in the game. Do not attempt her until your weapons are fully upgraded and you have the best armour from Niflheim.
  • The Muspelheim trials and Niflheim both need language ciphers to access, so collect those before planning the endgame.
1

Niflheim first

The mist maze rewards Echoes, crafting materials, and armour strong enough for the last fights. Bank resources before the timer becomes dangerous and open the central chamber chests until the 23,500-Echo requirement is satisfied.

2

Muspelheim trials

The first trial route teaches each challenge type, while the later impossible trials demand cleaner combat. Adjust Runic attacks and enchantments for the objective, since a survival trial and a no-damage trial reward different priorities.

3

Realm cleanup

Defeat the Valkyrie in each realm after its local grind. This avoids a second trip and leaves only Sigrun once both realm trophies, both Valkyries, and the weapon upgrades are complete.

Guide notes

Collectibles and Shrines

Clear the map one region at a time and track Odin's Ravens, artifacts, treasure dig spots, Nornir chests, and the 11 Jotnar shrines. Open every Lake of Nine landing point to remove fog and expose side areas. Nothing is missable, so a final free-roam sweep can recover anything skipped during the story.

Efficient route

God of War (2018) Platinum Strategy

Use these checkpoints alongside the roadmap to keep the God of War (2018) trophy route on schedule and protect the high-risk requirements.

1

Finish both weapon upgrade paths in the postgame

The final Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos upgrades arrive through late-game and optional content, so an incomplete weapon after the story does not mean the save is broken. Check the Frozen Flame and Chaos Flame sources against completed favors, bosses, and realm work. Buy the final upgrade only after the related material appears at a shop, then verify the weapon level before beginning repeated Valkyrie attempts.

Upgrade the Runic attacks and talisman that support the chosen Sigrun plan instead of spending every resource evenly. Fast activation and reliable invulnerability or recovery are valuable because long animations can be punished. Keep one resurrection stone stocked before every attempt. A consistent build that survives a mistake usually reaches the final phase more often than a maximum-damage setup that fails after one missed dodge.

2

Use map completion without confusing list scope

The map separates Midgard regions and the other realms, so inspect the local counters rather than relying only on the global percentage. A missing Raven in the Foothills and a missing artifact at the Lake of Nine need different routes even though both appear as incomplete collectibles. Clear reachable counters, revisit blocked paths after the story, and use Mystic Gateways to avoid repeating boat travel across already finished shores.

The 37 trophies belong to the 2018 game's PS4 list. Playing that PS4 title on PS5 uses backward compatibility and the same trophy set. Do not add Ragnarok objectives or trophies from the Greek games to this checklist. The explicit scope matters for searches using the bare God of War name, and it also prevents players from hunting an item that only exists in a different game.

3

Make the last cleanup trip intentional

When the map is nearly complete, list every remaining regional counter before leaving a shop. Carry the equipment and resurrection stone needed for any Valkyrie or combat favor on the same route, then use gateways to connect the unfinished areas. Open the trophy list after each category reaches its required total. If Father and Son does not unlock after Sigrun, the missing requirement will then be a named collectible, favor, trial, or upgrade rather than an uncertain global percentage. Record that missing name before travelling so the final trip has one clear destination and does not reopen regions that are already complete.

4

Finish the campaign before forcing completion

Play the story on any difficulty and collect what sits naturally on the route. No trophy requires hard mode, and every meaningful region remains available for cleanup after the ending. This makes a relaxed first pass more efficient than repeatedly leaving the campaign to chase a raven or artifact without the later traversal tools needed for the surrounding area.

Open Mystic Gateways, activate shops, and visit the Lake of Nine landings as they become available. Those actions shorten the postgame sweep even when a region is not ready for full completion. Once free roam opens, work by region and finish all visible collectible counters before moving to another realm.

5

Use Niflheim to prepare for the hardest content

Collect the language ciphers, enter Niflheim, and learn one safe loop through the mist maze. The maze layout changes, but the room connections follow a recognisable structure. Bank Mist Echoes early while learning. A greedy death loses the unbanked run and delays both the central chamber and the armour upgrades that make the rest of the endgame easier.

The central chamber needs 23,500 Mist Echoes for its trophy-related chests. Treat that total and the armour materials as one project. Upgrade a complete high-level set rather than spreading rare materials across several experiments. A strong Niflheim build improves survivability in Muspelheim and against every remaining Valkyrie, which is why this realm belongs before Sigrun.

6

Complete Muspelheim with objective-specific builds

Muspelheim trials change their rules. Some reward crowd control, some punish taking damage, and others impose time or kill conditions. Read the objective before spending Runic attacks and swap enchantments when the current build solves the wrong problem. The difficulty setting can be lowered at any time without blocking Fire and Brimstone or the platinum.

Finish the normal trial chain first, defeat the realm Valkyrie, and then work through the impossible requirements. Keep a resurrection stone equipped and enter with full Rage when the objective allows it. The trials also provide materials and combat practice for Sigrun, so completing them before the Queen turns two requirements into one preparation stage.

7

Turn the eight Valkyries into Sigrun practice

Each of the eight Valkyries teaches part of the final fight. Pay attention to the response that stops each dive, wing attack, projectile, and unblockable tell. Defeating them with a repeatable defensive plan is more useful than winning through item spam because Sigrun combines their attacks and leaves fewer safe opportunities to improvise.

Take every helm to the Council only after the local realm work is finished. Before summoning Sigrun, fully upgrade the Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos, equip fast Runic attacks, and buy the best resurrection stone available. If her health bar displays a much higher level than Kratos, improve gear first. Fighting a large level penalty makes ordinary mistakes unnecessarily lethal.

8

Clear collectibles by map region

Use the map counters to sweep Odin's Ravens, artifacts, treasure maps and dig spots, Nornir chests, favors, and the 11 Jotnar shrines. Finish one region before crossing the lake for another. This makes a missing total traceable. A global checklist with no regional state often leaves one raven or artifact hidden among several already completed areas.

One purple language cipher chest becomes inaccessible after the story, but the trophy route is still safe because more ciphers exist than the eight required. Nothing in the base list is missable. If a counter remains incomplete, free roam and the gateways provide a recovery route without New Game Plus or a second campaign.

9

Audit the list before the Queen

Before the final fight, confirm the story, favors, treasure, shrines, ravens, artifacts, Nornir upgrades, weapon upgrades, Muspelheim, Niflheim, and the first eight Valkyries. This leaves Chooser of the Slain as the only difficult unknown. When Sigrun falls, Father and Son should follow without another map-wide cleanup.

This page covers the 2018 Norse game and its PS4 list. The same PS4 title is playable on PS5 through backward compatibility, so there is not a separate native PS5 trophy stack to complete. God of War Ragnarok and the Greek-era games need their own checklists and should not be mixed into the 37-trophy total here.

Guide notes

God of War (2018) Missable, Glitched, and Difficulty Notes

  • No missable trophies. Free roam opens after the story, so every collectible and side objective can be cleaned up afterward.
  • One purple language cipher chest becomes unreachable once the story ends, but you only need 8 ciphers and more than 8 exist, so missing that one has no effect.
  • No trophy is tied to difficulty. Play on the easiest setting if you only want the platinum.
  • Queen Sigrun is the hardest fight in the game. Do not attempt her until your weapons are fully upgraded and you have the best armour from Niflheim.
  • The Muspelheim trials and Niflheim both need language ciphers to access, so collect those before planning the endgame.

37 trophies including the platinum, Father and Son. Ragnarok and the older Greek games have separate lists.

Is the God of War platinum hard?

Around 5 out of 10, and the only real wall is Queen Sigrun. Many players rate it higher purely because of that one fight.

Do you need to play on hard for the platinum?

No. There are no difficulty-related trophies, so you can complete the entire platinum on the easiest setting.

Are there missable trophies in God of War?

No. Free roam opens after the story. One purple cipher chest becomes unreachable, but there are more ciphers than you need.

What is the hardest trophy in God of War?

Beating Queen Sigrun, the ninth Valkyrie. Save her for last with fully upgraded weapons and the best Niflheim armour.

Does this guide cover God of War Ragnarok?

No. This covers the 2018 Norse game. Ragnarok is a separate title with its own trophy list and its own guide.
