Efficient route

Final Fantasy X Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap

Follow these phases in order to protect the missable work and keep the Final Fantasy X Platinum cleanup efficient.

1

Phase 1: Story, but stop before the end

Play the main story and stop at the last save sphere before the final boss. Do not pass it. Everything else on this list has to be finished first.

Track Al Bhed Primers from the very first area. All 26 are needed for Master Linguist and several are in places you cannot return to.

Pick up the story-automatic trophies as they come, the Besaid Cloister of Trials, the Underwater Date scene, all party members joining, and the boss trophies for Yunalesca and Seymour Omnis.

Get the Destruction Sphere item in the Besaid Cloister of Trials, it is required for Anima later.

Steal with Rikku 200 times as you play rather than farming it at the end.

2

Phase 2: The minigame block

Learn the Jecht Shot and start Blitzball early. You need roughly 17 matches minimum and to win most of them, so this cannot be left to the end.

Pass all chocobo training with the trainer in the Calm Lands. She moves position depending on how you enter the area.

Work up the chocobo training tiers, then the Catcher Chocobo race for a total time of 0:0.0. Budget real practice time for the 16.8 and 18.5 second runs.

Do the Remiem Temple chocobo race, collecting five treasure chests and winning.

Take on Lightning Dancer with No Encounters equipped. 200 consecutive dodges, no leaving the area, no saving, and collect the reward chest afterwards or the trophy will not fire.

3

Phase 3: Celestial Weapons, Aeons and Sphere Grids

Collect all Celestial Weapons and their upgrade items. Several depend on minigames already covered in Phase 2, which is why that order matters.

Obtain every Aeon including Anima and Yojimbo. Yojimbo requires a substantial gil payment, so bank money before attempting it.

Complete the Sphere Grid for every main character for Perfect Sphere Master. This is the longest single block on the list.

Bank the miscellaneous requirements while grinding, 99,999 damage in one attack, 100,000 gil in bribes, all slot reels, all enemy abilities and all Jecht Spheres.

4

Phase 4: The Monster Arena and the superbosses

Fill the Monster Arena, then take on Nemesis for Overcoming the Nemesis and Penance for Perseverance.

These two fights are the difficulty ceiling of the platinum and they require the stat work from Phase 3 to be finished first.

This is where a 60 hour game becomes a 100 hour platinum. One soft mention of DamnModz belongs here, then back to strategy.

Only once all of this is done should you pass the final save sphere and beat Yu Yevon.

5

Phase 5: Final Fantasy X-2, the second platinum

A completely separate trophy list with its own platinum, included in the same purchase.

Built around a strict story completion percentage, the Via Infinito, the dressphere system and Sphere Break.

Do not draft this section from FFX research. It needs its own verification pass before writing, since the completion percentage requirements are precise and unforgiving.

Guide notes

Do Not Pass the Final Save Sphere

Placed above the roadmap, before anything else. Play up to the save point before the final boss and stop. Every collectible, every Celestial Weapon, every Aeon, every superboss and every Sphere Grid has to be done before that point, because you cannot come back afterwards. This is the single most consequential instruction for this game and it is currently buried in one guide.

Guide notes

Lightning Dancer, 200 Consecutive Dodges

Not 200 total, 200 in a row, without leaving the Thunder Plains and without saving. The trophy only fires once you collect the reward from the chest outside Rin's Travel Agency in the middle section. Cover the practical setup, No Encounters armour, and the small hole in the northern Thunder Plains that triggers a strike on demand.

Guide notes

The Catcher Chocobo Race

The trophy needs a total time of 0:0.0.

Guide notes

Blitzball, the Hidden Time Sink

A minimum of around 17 matches with most of them won, plus the Jecht Shot for Wakka's Celestial Weapon. It is not, and saying so early is honest.

Guide notes

All 26 Al Bhed Primers

The only true missable. Several primers sit in areas you cannot revisit, so this has to be tracked from the start rather than cleaned up.

Efficient route

The Four Grind Blocks

, an H3 each. Celestial Weapons, all Aeons including Anima and Yojimbo, Perfect Sphere Master for every main character's full Sphere Grid, and the Monster Arena leading to Nemesis and Penance.

1

The Miscellaneous Requirements

99,999 damage in one attack, 100,000 gil or more spent on bribes, all slot reels, all enemy abilities, all Jecht Spheres, every sphere bought at the Luca Theater, and the Remiem Temple chocobo race with five chests plus a win.

Guide notes

Final Fantasy X-2

A separate list with its own platinum, also named Completion, built around a strict story completion percentage, the Via Infinito, dresspheres and Sphere Break.

Guide notes

Final Fantasy X Missable, Glitched, and Difficulty Notes

  • Master Linguist is the one true missable. All 26 Al Bhed Primers are required and several sit in areas you cannot return to, so track them from the first hour.
  • The bigger structural hazard is the point of no return. Passing the last save sphere before the final boss locks you out of every endgame trophy on that save.
  • Lightning Dancer needs 200 CONSECUTIVE dodges, not 200 total. Leaving the Thunder Plains or saving resets your count, and the trophy only fires when you collect the reward.
  • Blitzball cannot be shortcut. Around 17 matches minimum with most won, and it feeds Wakka's Celestial Weapon as well.
  • No difficulty settings exist, so nothing is difficulty gated. The difficulty is entirely in the optional completionist content.
  • The Catcher Chocobo race requires a total time of 0:0.0, which is a precision requirement rather than a grind.
  • There are no online trophies.
  • FFX and X-2 are separate lists with separate platinums. Neither counts toward the other.
  • Lists are separate per platform across PS3, PS4 and Vita, so the platinums stack across versions.

Quick answers

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to platinum Final Fantasy X?

Over 100 hours for FFX alone. The story is a fraction of that, most of the time goes into the Sphere Grids, the Monster Arena and the minigames.

How hard is the FFX platinum?

An 8 to 9 out of 10, but not because the combat is hard. The difficulty is the completionist requirements, especially 200 consecutive lightning dodges and the Catcher Chocobo race.

Does the HD Remaster have two platinums?

Yes. Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 have separate trophy lists with separate platinums, both named Completion, and both are included in the same purchase.

How do you dodge 200 lightning bolts in FFX?

You need 200 consecutive dodges without leaving the Thunder Plains or saving. Equip No Encounters, use the small hole in the northern area to trigger strikes on demand, and collect the reward chest outside Rin's Travel Agency afterwards or the trophy will not unlock.

Are there missable trophies in Final Fantasy X?

Master Linguist, which needs all 26 Al Bhed Primers. Several sit in areas you cannot revisit, so track them from the start rather than planning to clean up.

Can you get the FFX platinum after beating the game?

No. You have to complete everything before passing the last save sphere before the final boss, because you cannot return to the world afterwards. This is the most important rule for this platinum.

How much Blitzball do you have to play for the platinum?

At least 17 matches, and you need to win most of them. It also feeds the Jecht Shot and Wakka's Celestial Weapon, so it is not an optional side activity.

Do the FFX trophies stack across platforms?

Yes. The PS3, PS4 and Vita versions each have their own trophy lists, so the platinums can be earned separately on each.
