inFamous: Second Son Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap
Follow these phases in order to protect the missable work and keep the inFamous: Second Son Platinum cleanup efficient.
Phase 0: Difficulty and the Paper Trail answer
Decide which playthrough will be your Expert run and set the difficulty in Options before starting that game.
Never change difficulty mid-run on the Expert playthrough or the trophy voids. If you forget to set it, change it the moment you gain control of Delsin.
Paper Trail's website is gone but the in-game missions still function per Sony's own statement, so Celia's story remains completable.
Expert is not hard and the main story is only around 6 hours, so this is a light commitment.
Phase 1: First playthrough, good karma
Play through picking all Good karma choices, marked in blue.
Destroy the D.U.P. mobile command centre and interference towers in each district as you reach it. This reveals every side mission, objective and collectible on the map.
Do the blue side missions to raise karma to level 5 for True Hero. You do not need the rest of the side content.
Collect the Neon Lumens and other collectibles, all of which are plotted on your map once the towers are down.
Paper Trail appears on the bridge where you meet Augustine the second time, after the command centres are cleared.
Phase 2: Second playthrough, evil karma on Expert
Set Expert before starting, then play through picking all Evil karma choices, marked in red.
Do the red side missions to reach karma level 5 for Infamous.
Pick up the evil-only trophies, including killing 10 bigots after they are introduced in Go Fetch.
Note that Akuran gang members only appear in Downtown after crossing the bridge.
Do not change the difficulty at any point during this run. One soft mention of DamnModz fits here at most.
Phase 3: Free roam cleanup and the platinum
Free roam is available after the story, so anything outstanding can be picked up now.
Some trophies only become obtainable once the story is finished, so a stalled trophy is not necessarily broken.
Complete Paper Trail's in-game missions if you have not, since they still function despite the website closing.
The platinum should land quickly given the story is only around 6 hours per run.
Guide notes
Paper Trail Still Works In Game
First section after the Quick Info box. The web-based puzzle portions of inFAMOUS Paper Trail shut down on 16 December 2018 at 00:01 GMT. Sony's own PlayStation Store page states that the in-game Paper Trail PlayStation 4 missions continue to function, so Celia's story can still be completed, and the Infamous Wiki confirms the in-game missions remain playable.
Guide notes
Set Expert Before You Start
Set the difficulty to Expert in the Options menu before beginning a new game. If you forget, change it as soon as you gain control of Delsin. Then do not change it again for any reason during that playthrough, because doing so voids the trophy. Expert itself is not difficult and the main story is only around 6 hours, and you do not need to clear any D.U.P. districts for it, just the main story.
Efficient route
Clear the Command Centres First
Each district has a D.U.P. mobile command centre and interference towers. Destroying them reveals every side mission, objective and collectible on your map. One of the first missions is a tutorial for finding them. This single action per district turns the game from an exploration hunt into a checklist, and it is also what makes Paper Trail appear.
Where Paper Trail Actually Shows Up
On the bridge where you meet Augustine in person the second time, and only after clearing the D.U.P. command centres. Players have reported the quest appearing to be missing from the map entirely before that point, which sends them looking for a bug that does not exist.
Efficient route
Two Playthroughs, Opposite Karma
Play one run picking all Good karma choices and one picking all Evil, doing the matching blue or red side missions to reach karma level 5 for True Hero or Infamous. The karma-specific mission trophies are the only missables, and covering both routes handles them.
The Karma Level 5 Requirement
Raising karma to level 5 needs the side missions matching your alignment. Note that you do not need to do the rest of the side content, only enough to move your karma.
The Evil Karma Specifics
Several trophies are evil-run only, including killing 10 bigots introduced in Go Fetch. Note that Akuran gang members only appear in the Downtown area after crossing the bridge, which is easy to miss.
Free Roam and Post-Story Trophies
Free roam is available after the story and anything missed can be picked up then. Some trophies are only obtainable once the story is finished, so do not assume a stalled trophy is broken.
Not First Light or the PS3 Games
Cross-link our inFAMOUS: First Light brief, noting that a Second Son save unlocks Delsin in its arenas but he cannot complete Fetch's Neon-specific challenges. That is a real interaction between the two pages.

inFamous: Second Son Missable, Glitched, and Difficulty Notes
- The only missables are the karma-specific mission trophies, which are technically lost if you pick the wrong mission. Doing both a good and an evil playthrough covers them.
- The Expert difficulty trophy voids if you change difficulty at any point during that playthrough. Set it in Options before starting.
- Paper Trail's web-based puzzles shut down on 16 December 2018, but Sony states the in-game missions continue to function, so Celia's story remains completable.
- Paper Trail only appears on the bridge where you meet Augustine the second time, and only after clearing the D.U.P. command centres. It looks missing before that.
- Destroying each district's D.U.P. mobile command centre reveals all side missions, objectives and collectibles on the map.
- Free roam is available after the story, and some trophies only become obtainable once the story is finished.
- Akuran gang members can only be found in the Downtown area after crossing the bridge.
- There are no online trophies and the main story is only around 6 hours, so Expert is a light requirement.
Quick answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Paper Trail shutdown block the Second Son platinum?
No. The web-based puzzles closed on 16 December 2018, but Sony's own store page states the in-game Paper Trail missions continue to function, so Celia's story can still be completed.
How many playthroughs does Second Son need?
Two, one with all Good karma choices and one with all Evil. Set Expert difficulty on one of them, and the karma-specific mission trophies are covered by doing both routes.
How do you get the Expert difficulty trophy in Second Son?
Set Expert in the Options menu before starting a new game and never change it during that run, or the trophy voids. Expert is not hard and the main story is only around 6 hours.
Why can't I find the Paper Trail quest?
It appears on the bridge where you meet Augustine in person the second time, and only after you have cleared the D.U.P. command centres. Before that it will not show on your map.
How do you reveal collectibles in Second Son?
Destroy the D.U.P. mobile command centre and interference towers in each district. That plots every side mission, objective and collectible on your map automatically.
Are there missable trophies in Second Son?
Only the karma-specific mission trophies, and since you need both a good and an evil playthrough anyway, they are covered. Free roam handles everything else.
How long does it take to platinum Second Son?
Not long. The main story is around 6 hours per run and you need two runs, so this is one of the quicker PS4 platinums at roughly 3 out of 10.
Does a Second Son save affect First Light?
Yes. It unlocks Delsin in First Light's Challenge Arenas, but he cannot complete Fetch's Neon-specific challenges, so do not use him for trophies there.
