Resident Evil 2 Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap
Follow these phases in order to protect the missable work and keep the Resident Evil 2 Platinum cleanup efficient.
Phase 1: Leon A on Assisted or Standard, full collectible sweep
Start with Leon and use a lower difficulty to gather collectibles calmly. Nothing about the platinum requires suffering on run one.
Read all files, destroy all Mr. Raccoons and sweep the collectibles for this scenario. Each of the four scenarios has its own set.
Work the missable combat and boss trophies for this run from the grouped list rather than trying to remember them.
Do not attempt the run-condition trophies yet. Learn the map first.
Phase 2: Get an S rank on Standard
Target S rank on Standard with either character. S+ is not required for any trophy.
This unlocks the Unlimited Ammo Samurai Edge pistol, which can be used on any mode and any difficulty afterwards.
Doing this before the Hardcore runs rather than after is the single biggest time saver available on this platinum.
S rank also does not care whether you play the A or B scenario, so pick whichever you know best.
Phase 3: Hardcore with both characters
Both Leon and Claire need a Hardcore completion. Difficulty trophies stack, so an S rank earned on Hardcore also counts.
Saving is restricted on Hardcore. You need an Ink Ribbon in your inventory to save at a Typewriter, so treat ribbons as a resource.
Bring the Unlimited Ammo Samurai Edge from Phase 2. If you own the infinite weapons DLC, that shortens this further.
These two runs are the ones buyers most want handled. One soft mention of DamnModz fits here, then back to strategy.
Phase 4: The run-condition trophies
Combine Frugalist, no recovery items, with a run you are already doing rather than making it standalone.
A Small Carbon Footprint, 14,000 steps or fewer, usually falls out naturally once you know the route and stop exploring.
Isolate Minimalist, never opening the item box, as its own run. Stacking it with other conditions is where most attempts fail.
Sweep the remaining B scenario collectibles while doing these, so no run is wasted.
Phase 5: The 4th Survivor and the platinum
Select Extra Mode then The 4th Survivor. It unlocks after completing any character's 2nd run scenario.
Roughly 10 minutes as Hunk from the Sewers back to the Police Station. Items are scarce and there is no boss, so it is an item management run rather than a combat one.
Grim Reaper for completing it is the last trophy for most players, and Raccoon City Native follows.
If you want the second platinum, transfer your PS4 save to the PS5 version once you are done.
Guide notes
You Do Not Need S+ Rank
Placed above the roadmap. The platinum requires S rank, not S+, and S rank can be earned on Standard rather than Hardcore. Stating it early changes whether they attempt the game at all.
Guide notes
Get the S Rank First, Then Everything Is Easier
An S rank on Standard unlocks the Unlimited Ammo Samurai Edge, usable on any mode and any difficulty. That makes both Hardcore runs dramatically easier, so it should be the second thing you do rather than the last.
Guide notes
The Four Scenarios
Leon A, Claire A, Leon B and Claire B. Collectibles differ across them, which is why the realistic playthrough count is six rather than four.
Guide notes
All 23 Missable Trophies, Grouped by Run
, an H3 per scenario. Boss-specific timing and method trophies such as defeating Stage 2 G using the crane only once, plus the Ada and Sherry section tasks. Grouping by run is what makes this list usable.
Guide notes
Hardcore Mode and Ink Ribbons
Both characters must complete Hardcore. You cannot save freely, saving requires an Ink Ribbon used at a Typewriter. Cover the save economy, because that is the actual difficulty rather than enemy damage.
Guide notes
The Four Run-Condition Trophies
, an H3 each. Frugalist for no recovery items, Minimalist for never opening the item box, A Small Carbon Footprint for 14,000 steps or fewer, and Grim Reaper for The 4th Survivor. Note that A Small Carbon Footprint usually comes naturally on a knowledgeable run, and that Minimalist is worth isolating rather than stacking.
Guide notes
The 4th Survivor
A roughly 10 minute Hunk run from the Sewers to the Police Station with scarce items and no boss. The final trophy for most players and the one the platinum lands on.
Efficient route
PS4 to PS5 Autopop
Separate lists exist, and transferring a PS4 save to the PS5 version reportedly pops every trophy including the platinum. Verify and date it, because it means a second platinum for free.
Paid and Free DLC
The paid extra content unlocks Hunk and Tofu modes plus infinite weapons and can reduce the playthrough count. The Ghost Survivors is free and adds four what-if scenarios. Confirm which, if any, carry trophies before covering them.

Guide notes
Resident Evil 2 Missable, Glitched, and Difficulty Notes
- 23 missable trophies, which is over half the list. They are mostly boss-specific timing or method trophies and tasks inside the Ada and Sherry sections.
- Because you will be doing six or more runs anyway, the practical risk is lower than the count suggests. Say so, then give the grouped list by scenario.
- Difficulty does affect trophies. Hardcore completion is required with both Leon and Claire.
- Difficulty trophies stack, so an S rank earned on a Hardcore run counts for the S rank trophy too.
- S+ rank is not required anywhere on this list. Only S rank, and it can be earned on Standard.
- On Hardcore you cannot save freely. Saving needs an Ink Ribbon used at a Typewriter, which makes save management the real difficulty.
- Collectibles differ across the four scenarios, which is why the theoretical 4 run minimum becomes 6 or more in practice.
- No glitched trophies are reported, which is worth stating as a positive given how many missables there are.
- PS4 and PS5 have separate lists. Transferring a PS4 save to the PS5 version reportedly pops every trophy including the platinum, one direction only.
Quick answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you need S+ rank for the Resident Evil 2 platinum?
No. Only S rank is required, and it can be earned on Standard rather than Hardcore. This is the most common misconception about this trophy list.
How many playthroughs do you need to platinum Resident Evil 2?
Four at the absolute minimum, but six or more realistically. That is roughly three runs each with Leon and Claire, plus a separate 4th Survivor run.
How long does it take to platinum Resident Evil 2 Remake?
Around 30 hours. Less if you buy the infinite weapons DLC, since the platinum does not require S+ ranks so infinite ammo is free to use.
How do you make the Hardcore runs easier in Resident Evil 2?
Earn an S rank on Standard first. That unlocks the Unlimited Ammo Samurai Edge pistol, which works on any mode and difficulty including Hardcore.
How many missable trophies does Resident Evil 2 have?
23, mostly boss-specific timing trophies and tasks in the Ada and Sherry sections. Because the platinum needs six or more runs anyway, most are recoverable on a later scenario.
Does difficulty affect trophies in Resident Evil 2 Remake?
Yes. Both Leon and Claire have to complete Hardcore. Difficulty trophies stack though, so an S rank earned on Hardcore also counts for the S rank trophy.
Will my PS4 Resident Evil 2 trophies autopop on PS5?
Reports say yes, that transferring a PS4 save to the PS5 version pops every trophy including the platinum. It works in that direction only.
How do you unlock The 4th Survivor?
Complete any character's 2nd run scenario, then select it from Extra Mode. It is a roughly 10 minute Hunk run from the Sewers to the Police Station with no boss but very scarce items.
