Alan Wake 2 Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap
Follow these phases in order to protect the missable work and keep the Alan Wake 2 Platinum cleanup efficient.
Phase 0: Check the bug status first
Confirm whether the Koskela Brothers Coffee World commercial tracking bug has been patched. If it has not, the platinum cannot be completed by a new player and that needs saying before anything else.
Check recent PSNProfiles activity on the trophy as the quickest signal, since it will show whether anyone has earned it lately.
Play on Story difficulty if you like. There are no difficulty trophies, and Gameplay Assists do not void anything.
Phase 1: Opening chapters for both characters
Play the first five chapters, two for Saga and three for Alan, until you unlock free switching between their storylines.
Follow a collectible guide from the start. It does not spoil later chapters and this game has no Chapter Select to fall back on.
Focus your upgrades on fully upgrading one weapon rather than spreading them. All Smiles is reportedly missable otherwise.
Explore Cauldron Lake, Bright Falls and parts of The Dark Place as you go, since Saga's areas close permanently later.
Phase 2: Saga's chapters and the collectible sweep
Complete Saga's five chapters and sweep Cauldron Lake, Bright Falls and Watery fully before starting Return 7 Summoning.
Get collectibles done before Return 6 Scratch, because the map darkens afterwards and searching becomes much harder.
Watch for the one genuinely missable Saga commercial. A different Saga missable was fixed in patch 1.15, so do not trust pre-patch warnings.
The last Saga collectible is available in Return 8 Deerfest.
Phase 3: Alan's chapters
Work Alan's storyline in The Dark Place, where most locations can be re-entered.
Four of Alan's videos are genuinely missable, so follow the collectible guide closely for those specifically.
Make a manual save before Initiation 8 Zane's Film, which is Alan's point of no return.
Phase 4: Points of no return, then the platinum
Make a manual save before Return 6 Scratch as well. With no Chapter Select, those two saves are your only cleanup route.
Finish any combat and miscellaneous trophies, then complete both storylines.
Sisu unlocks on the final trophy, assuming the tracking bug is resolved.
Hold any commercial mention on this page until the bug status is confirmed.
Phase 5: Final Draft and the DLC, optional
Final Draft is the New Game Plus mode, selectable from the main menu after one completion, with optional Nightmare difficulty and new collectibles.
Saga's extra weapons and unique charms carry over, but you must reach a shoebox in Return 2 The Heart before you can collect them, and you begin with no charms equipped.
Night Springs is short. Watch Smooth Blend in episode 2, a stealth trophy that forces a full episode replay if you fail twice.
Neither DLC is required for the base platinum.
Guide notes
Is the Platinum Currently Obtainable
The first section on the page. Multiple players reported that from version 1.000.012 on PS5 the Koskela Brothers Coffee World commercial stopped being tracked, which made that trophy and the platinum impossible for anyone who had not already earned it. Support acknowledged a fix was in progress. State the verified current position with the date checked. If it is still broken, say so at the top rather than after 30 hours.
Efficient route
Save Before Both Points of No Return
There are two, Return 6 Scratch for Saga and Initiation 8 Zane's Film for Alan. There is no Chapter Select in the base game, so a manual save before each is the only way to clean up afterwards. Make this a hard instruction rather than a suggestion.
Collect Before the Map Darkens
Finish collectibles before Return 6 Scratch, because the map becomes visually darker afterwards and exploration gets meaningfully harder. Cauldron Lake, Bright Falls and Watery become inaccessible entirely past Saga's point of no return.
Efficient route
The Genuinely Missable Collectibles
One commercial as Saga and four videos as Alan. A previously missable Saga collectible was fixed in patch 1.15, so guides written before that patch overstate the risk.
All Smiles and Weapon Upgrades
Reportedly missable if you spread upgrades across many weapons rather than fully upgrading one. That is a build decision made hours before the trophy becomes relevant, so it belongs early.
Efficient route
No Difficulty Trophies, Assists Allowed
There are no difficulty trophies and no collectibles that only appear on harder difficulties. Everything can be done on Story difficulty, and the Gameplay Assists can be used freely without affecting trophies. That is the main reassurance for a game with a reputation for tension.
Character Switching
After the first five chapters, two for Saga and three for Alan, you can switch freely between their storylines and progress whichever you prefer until each hits its point of no return.
Guide notes
Final Draft, the New Game Plus Mode
Added after launch, selectable from the main menu once you complete the game. Includes optional Nightmare difficulty, altered plot elements and new collectibles. Saga's additional weapons and unique charms carry over but you must wait for a shoebox in Return 2 The Heart to collect them, and you start with no charms equipped. Several older guides state there is no New Game Plus, which is now wrong.
Efficient route
The DLC
Night Springs is short and mostly story trophies, with one Stashes collectible set in episode 2 and a highly missable stealth trophy, Smooth Blend, that requires redoing the whole episode if you fail it twice. The Lake House is the second pack. Neither is required for the base platinum.

Guide notes
Alan Wake 2 Missable, Glitched, and Difficulty Notes
- The most important item is not a trophy at all. A reported tracking bug from version 1.000.012 on PS5 may prevent the Koskela Brothers commercial trophy from unlocking, which would block the platinum. Verify before starting.
- There is no Chapter Select in the base game, so a manual save before each Point of No Return is the only cleanup route. Return 6 Scratch for Saga, Initiation 8 Zane's Film for Alan.
- One commercial as Saga and four videos as Alan are genuinely missable. A separate Saga missable was fixed in patch 1.15, so pre-patch guides overstate the risk.
- All Smiles is reportedly missable if you spread weapon upgrades instead of fully upgrading a single weapon.
- Cauldron Lake, Bright Falls and Watery become inaccessible past Saga's point of no return, and the map darkens after Return 6 Scratch making exploration harder.
- There are no difficulty trophies and no difficulty-exclusive collectibles. Story difficulty is fine and Gameplay Assists do not void anything.
- Final Draft, the New Game Plus mode, was added after launch. Guides stating there is no New Game Plus are out of date.
- In the Night Springs DLC, Smooth Blend is highly missable and failing it twice means replaying the entire episode.
Quick answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Alan Wake 2 platinum still obtainable?
That needs verifying. Players reported that from version 1.000.012 the Koskela Brothers Coffee World commercial stopped being tracked, which blocks that trophy and the platinum. Support said a fix was in progress, so check the current status before starting.
Does difficulty affect trophies in Alan Wake 2?
No. There are no difficulty trophies at all and no collectibles exclusive to harder difficulties. You can play on Story difficulty and use the Gameplay Assists freely.
Is there chapter select in Alan Wake 2?
Not in the base game. Final Draft is a New Game Plus mode added after launch, but for cleanup you need a manual save made before each Point of No Return.
What are the points of no return in Alan Wake 2?
Two. Return 6 Scratch for Saga and Initiation 8 Zane's Film for Alan. Save manually before both, because there is no chapter select to fall back on.
Which Alan Wake 2 collectibles are missable?
One commercial in Saga's storyline and four videos in Alan's. A different Saga collectible used to be missable but was fixed in patch 1.15.
How do you get the All Smiles trophy?
Fully upgrade a single weapon rather than spreading upgrades across several. It is reportedly missable if your resources are split too widely.
What is Final Draft in Alan Wake 2?
The New Game Plus mode, available from the main menu after one completion. It adds optional Nightmare difficulty, altered plot elements and new collectibles, and your weapons and charms carry over once you find a shoebox in Return 2.
Do you need the DLC for the Alan Wake 2 platinum?
No. Night Springs and The Lake House both have their own trophies and neither is required for the base platinum.
