Efficient route

Nioh Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap

Follow these phases in order to protect the missable work and keep the Nioh Platinum cleanup efficient.

1

Phase 1: Main story across six regions

Work through the main missions region by region. There are no missable trophies, every trophy mission can be replayed, so play at your own pace.

Do the side missions as you go rather than saving them. They give the best rewards including Guardian Spirits, gestures and collectibles, and they count toward Samurai of Legend.

Collect Kodama as you play, 25 per region across 6 regions for 150 total. Track progress under Titles then Gameplay Record.

Bathe in every hot spring you pass. Backtracking for these later is pure wasted time.

Light all three evil-warding bonfires in Itsukushima when you reach it, this is easy to walk past.

2

Phase 2: Weapons, magic and mastery

Acquire mystic arts for all five weapon types, plus ninjutsu and onmyo magic mastery.

Plan skill point spend early. Spreading across all five weapons from the start is slower than it looks but avoids a dedicated grind later.

Pick up the combat and yokai trophies naturally, defeating all yokai types, communicating with yokai 10 times, and the blacksmith requests.

Complete 10 missions with an NPC companion or another player for the co-op trophy. An NPC counts, so this does not require finding a partner.

3

Phase 3: Samurai of Legend, every mission

This is the platinum. It requires every main mission, every side mission, every dojo mission and every Twilight Mission.

Twilight Missions rotate rather than being permanently listed, which is why players get stuck at 97 percent mission completion with no obvious cause. Explain the rotation schedule and how to check what is outstanding.

Watch the mission completion percentage under Gameplay Record rather than counting manually, and note that Twilight completion is tracked separately.

This is the point where a 40 hour game becomes a 90 hour one. One soft mention of DamnModz belongs here, then back to the grind.

4

Phase 4: Collection cleanup and the platinum

Close out any remaining Kodama, Guardian Spirits, gestures and the best-materials trophy.

Finish the 60 blacksmith requests and the Hiragumo teakettle fragments from Shigisan if outstanding.

The platinum lands on the last trophy, which for most players is Samurai of Legend.

If you want the PS5 platinum too, The Nioh Collection has its own separate list and nothing autopops.

Guide notes

Samurai of Legend and the Twilight Mission Problem

The trophy that decides this platinum. It needs every mission completed including Twilight Missions, which rotate on a schedule rather than being permanently available. This is the highest-intent section on the page.

Guide notes

Honest Difficulty and the Patch History

Originally rated 9 out of 10 on the strength of the Living Weapon build. Patch 1.03 nerfed Living Weapon health decay and increased extraction talisman effectiveness, which changed the practical difficulty. Disc owners can play unpatched.

Guide notes

PS4 vs PS5 Lists

Separate and stackable, with the PS5 version arriving through The Nioh Collection.

Guide notes

All 150 Kodama

6 regions at 25 each, across main and side missions, tracked under Titles then Gameplay Record. One H3 per region or a single table with a progress column.

Guide notes

Hot Springs, Guardian Spirits and Gestures

The other collection trophies, every hot spring bathed, all Guardian Spirits collected and 40 gestures acquired. Group them, they resolve alongside the mission grind.

Efficient route

Mystic Arts for All Five Weapons

Plus ninjutsu and onmyo magic mastery.

1

Co-op and the Companion Trophy

Almost the entire game is playable in co-op, and one trophy needs 10 missions completed with an NPC or another player. Note this is the only meaningfully social requirement.

2

DLC Is Not Required

Dragon of the North, Defiant Honor and Bloodshed's End add trophies including Abyss and NG++ content. None are needed for the base platinum.

Guide notes

Nioh Missable, Glitched, and Difficulty Notes

  • No missable trophies. Every trophy-relevant mission can be replayed, which is unusual for a game with this reputation and worth stating early.
  • Samurai of Legend is the real obstacle. It requires every mission including Twilight Missions, which rotate rather than sitting permanently in the mission list.
  • The Twilight rotation is why players report being stranded at 97 percent mission completion. It is not a glitch, it is a scheduling problem.
  • Difficulty selection does not gate any base trophy. Way of the Strong and higher are not required for the platinum.
  • Patch history changes the practical difficulty. Patch 1.03 nerfed the Living Weapon build, and disc owners can choose to play unpatched. Note that guide advice written before 1.03 may no longer apply.
  • PS4 and PS5 lists are separate and stack, with no autopop between them.
  • The DLC expansions add trophies including Abyss and NG++ requirements, none of which count toward the base platinum.

Quick answers

Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is the Nioh platinum?

Somewhere between a 6 and an 8 out of 10, and lower than its reputation suggests. It was originally rated a 9 before patches changed the Living Weapon build, and the real obstacle is mission completion rather than combat skill.

How long does it take to platinum Nioh?

Around 35 to 40 hours if you play efficiently and focus on the platinum, or 90 to 100 hours or more for full completion including the DLC.

What is Samurai of Legend in Nioh?

The gold trophy for completing all missions, including Twilight Missions. It sits near 7.5 percent rarity and it is the trophy that decides this platinum.

Why is my Nioh mission completion stuck at 97 percent?

Almost always outstanding Twilight Missions. They rotate on a schedule rather than staying in your mission list, so you have to wait for the ones you have not cleared to come back around.

Are there missable trophies in Nioh?

No. Every mission tied to a trophy can be replayed, so nothing is permanently lost.

Does Nioh have separate PS4 and PS5 trophy lists?

Yes. The PS5 version arrived through The Nioh Collection and has its own list, so both platinums are available. Nothing autopops between them.

Do you need the Nioh DLC for the platinum?

No. Dragon of the North, Defiant Honor and Bloodshed's End add their own trophies, including Abyss and NG++ requirements, but none count toward the base platinum.

How many Kodama are in Nioh?

150 in total, 25 in each of the 6 regions, spread across main and side missions. You can track your count under Titles then Gameplay Record.
