The Outer Worlds Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap
Follow these phases in order to protect the missable work and keep the The Outer Worlds Platinum cleanup efficient.
Phase 1: Confirm your edition first
Check whether you own the 2019 base game or the 2023 Spacer's Choice Edition. They are separate lists and the DLC is handled differently in each.
If you are on the base game, decide now whether you want the DLC trophies. They are independent sets and not needed for the base platinum.
Plan for two playthroughs from the start. The mutually exclusive trophies make one run impossible without save juggling.
Phase 2: Run one, Normal or Hard, the good path
Play on Normal if you want comfort, or Hard if you would rather bank that trophy now. Never change difficulty mid run, it voids the difficulty trophy.
Recruit every companion early and do not antagonise factions before the roster is complete, or a companion can permanently refuse to join.
Do all companion quest lines and as much side content as you can before pushing the main story.
Take the positive side of each mutually exclusive pair on this run, including 75 percent or higher positive reputation with three factions.
Back up your save before every major faction decision so you can flip a choice without a full replay.
Note that reputation only needs 75 percent, not 100, and the three factions do not have to match across the positive and negative trophies.
Phase 3: Run two, Supernova, the ruthless path
Supernova awards Hard as well, so combine them. Do not touch the difficulty setting at any point during the run.
Understand the conditions before starting, you must eat drink and sleep, companions die permanently, fast travel goes only to your ship, and manual saves are ship-only with sparse autosaves.
Use this run for the evil-path trophies, Monarch Abides, Ludwig was Right and the negative reputation trophy.
Many players speedrun Supernova rather than playing it fully, because the save restrictions make a long run painful. Offer that as a legitimate strategy.
This is the requirement buyers most want handled. One soft DamnModz mention belongs here, then back to strategy.
Phase 4: Sunburn and cleanup
Save your game, then trigger Sunburn by manually skipping the Hope into the sun from the bridge console. It requires Intelligence below average, or an Adrena-Time crash stack if Intelligence is 2 or lower. It ends the run, hence the save.
Mop up the grind trophies, 300 medical inhaler uses, 100 plasma kills, 50 sneak attack kills, 30 tinkering improvements and the rest.
Watch Mad Scientist. Selling a science weapon can leave it unobtainable, so keep all five.
If you want the DLC sets, run Peril on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos last. Neither counts toward the base platinum.
Guide notes
Which Edition and Which List
First section after the Quick Info box. The 2019 base game, its two separate DLC sets, and the 2023 Spacer's Choice Edition on PS5 with the DLC bundled in. A table beats prose here. Flag the count discrepancy between sources honestly rather than picking a number.
Guide notes
Mutually Exclusive Trophies
The reason this platinum needs two runs. All for One versus One for All, Peace in Our Time versus Monarch Abides, and 75 percent positive reputation with three factions versus 75 percent negative with three.
Guide notes
Supernova Difficulty
Its full condition list, eating drinking and sleeping to survive, permanent companion death, fast travel only to your ship, manual saves only on your ship, and sparse autosaves. Note it stacks upward and awards Hard as well, and that changing difficulty mid run voids both.
Efficient route
Recruiting Every Companion
Companions can refuse to join if their faction reputation drops too far, which permanently blocks the recruit-all trophy.
Sunburn, the Deliberate Game Over
Skipping the Hope into the sun requires Intelligence below average, or an Adrena-Time crash stack if Intelligence is no higher than 2. Save first, because it ends the run.
Reputation Only Needs 75 Percent
Not 100 percent, and it does not have to be the same three factions on both sides. A small correction that saves hours.
Not The Outer Worlds 2
The 2025 sequel is a separate game with its own list. Disambiguate near the top and link out.

The Outer Worlds Missable, Glitched, and Difficulty Notes
- Eight named missables. Hard, Supernova, Well Dressed, All for One, One for All, Peace in Our Time, Monarch Abides and Sunburn.
- Difficulty does affect trophies. Hard and Supernova are separate trophies, and changing the difficulty setting at any point during a run voids them.
- Supernova stacks upward and awards Hard as well, so those two share a run.
- Several trophies are mutually exclusive. All for One versus One for All, Peace in Our Time versus Monarch Abides, and positive versus negative reputation with three factions. Save backups can cover them in one run, otherwise plan two.
- Recruiting all companions can be permanently blocked if a companion's faction turns against you before you recruit them.
- Mad Scientist has been reported as effectively missable if you sell the science weapons it requires. Keep all five.
- Sunburn ends your run, so save before triggering it. It also requires below-average Intelligence, which is a build decision made hours earlier.
- No glitched trophies are widely reported on the base list.
- The DLC trophy sets are separate and none of them are required for the base platinum.
Quick answers
Frequently Asked Questions
How many playthroughs do you need to platinum The Outer Worlds?
Two at minimum. The mutually exclusive faction and companion trophies are the only reason, and the Supernova run naturally becomes the second.
How long does it take to platinum The Outer Worlds?
Around 50 hours or more for the base list. The Spacer's Choice Edition is reported at roughly 48 hours.
Does the Spacer's Choice Edition have a separate trophy list?
Yes. The 2023 PS5 edition has its own list, reported at 69 trophies with the DLC bundled in, against 49 on the 2019 base game with the DLC as separate sets.
Do you need Supernova difficulty for the platinum?
Yes, there is a dedicated Supernova trophy. It also awards the Hard trophy, so the two can be earned in the same run as long as you never change the difficulty setting.
What does Supernova difficulty change?
You have to eat, drink and sleep to survive, companions die permanently rather than being knocked out, fast travel works only to your ship, and manual saving is restricted to your ship with sparse autosaves.
Are there missable trophies in The Outer Worlds?
Eight, and they are all named rather than hidden. Hard, Supernova, Well Dressed, All for One, One for All, Peace in Our Time, Monarch Abides and Sunburn.
How do you get the Sunburn trophy?
Save your game first, then use the bridge console on the Hope to perform a manual skip into the sun. It requires Intelligence below average, and it ends your run.
Do you need the DLC for The Outer Worlds platinum?
No. Peril on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos are separate trophy sets on the base game and neither is required for the base platinum.
