Efficient route

Final Fantasy VII Remake Platinum Roadmap

1

Phase 1: Complete the Story and Earn Materia for Beginners

Start on Easy, Normal or Classic and complete all 18 chapters. Hard is unavailable until the story has been cleared once, so there is no advantage to choosing a tougher setting during this run.

PS5 players using version 1.004 or later can enable Streamlined Progression to shorten combat and grinding. Do not activate Max Materia Levels until one materia levels up naturally and Materia for Beginners unlocks. The option immediately maxes non-summon materia, and those copies stay maxed after it is switched off. The other progression assists do not invalidate trophies, although 9,999 damage should be switched off temporarily when working on stagger-based trophies.

Use the first run for broad completion rather than a bare story sprint:

  • Complete every available side quest in Chapters 3, 8, 9 and 14.
  • Collect music discs, weapons and enemy-skill materia as they appear.
  • Complete Chadley's Battle Intel tasks whenever practical.
  • Finish the Chapter 4 motorcycle sequence strongly for Biker Boy.
  • Collect Chocobo & Moogle materia in Chapter 6.
  • Complete the Chapter 7 lever sequence for In Lockstep.
  • Earn one set of Cloud, Tifa and Aerith dresses.
  • Follow Sam's Chapter 9 quest route at least once because The Party Never Stops contains a required Johnny incident.
  • Complete Aerith vs. Wild Animals immediately after Hell House, then return through Chapter Select after the story for Aerith's newly unlocked solo Colosseum fight.

Try to finish all 24 quests available within one continuous story route. The Angel's Letter then appears near the end of Chapter 14 for Divine Gratitude. There are 26 quests in the Play Log, but two Chapter 9 pairs are mutually exclusive, so the remaining pair must be completed through Chapter Select.

2

Phase 2: Use Chapter Select for Quests, Collectibles and Combat Prerequisites

Chapter Select unlocks after the ending. It retains levels, equipment, weapon proficiency, Battle Intel progress and collected items, which means nothing on the base list is permanently missable.

Use it to complete the alternate Chapter 9 quest route, obtain missing music discs and weapons, finish every weapon ability, reach level 50 and clear the remaining Battle Intel reports. Also complete both Whack-a-Box challenges, the pull-up and squat ranks, every Corneo Colosseum fight and all 13 prerequisite Shinra Combat Simulator challenges. After the story, Chapter 9 adds another Aerith solo Colosseum fight that must be completed immediately after Hell House while she remains in the party.

The Chapter 9 branch is important for three separate goals:

  1. Complete both Sam and Madam M quest routes for Best in the Business.
  2. Include The Party Never Stops in one route for The Johnny Experience.
  3. Use the no-quest, Sam and Madam M outcomes to obtain Cloud's three dresses.

The rerun is more controlled than the calendar and relationship cleanup described in the Persona 5 trophy guide. Final Fantasy VII Remake records most progress through the Play Log, so check that screen before replaying a chapter unnecessarily.

3

Phase 3: Clear Hard Mode and the Postgame Combat Challenges

Complete Chapters 1 through 18 on Hard for Hardened Veteran. Items are disabled, enemies are stronger and benches restore HP without restoring MP. MP management therefore matters more than raw damage during the standard route.

Before committing to the full Hard run, standard-route players should consider clearing the Chapter 17 Top Secrets challenge. Its reward, Götterdämmerung, starts most battles with a full Limit gauge and continually charges it, making later chapters much easier. The challenge requires every Corneo Colosseum fight and all 13 prerequisite Shinra Combat Simulator challenges, including Aerith's postgame solo fight in Chapter 9.

PS5 players can keep Streamlined Progression active during Hard Mode. Full HP and MP, rapid ATB and Limit generation, boosted damage and faster progression reduce most combat encounters to cleanup. Minigames are not solved by these settings, so Jules and the dress routes still require normal execution and routing.

Use this playthrough for a second set of Tifa, Aerith and Cloud dresses. Complete Chapters 3 and 8 after setting their outcomes. In Chapter 9, continue until the dresses appear and the Play Log updates before jumping elsewhere.

4

Phase 4: Finish the Third Dress Set and Final Cleanup

Dressed to the Nines normally requires one final partial pass through Chapters 3, 8 and 9. Use the Play Log to identify which dress each character still needs, set the correct quest conditions, then progress far enough for the new outfit to register.

Finish any remaining minigame, stagger, Johnny or collectible trophy. Once all 53 non-Platinum base trophies are unlocked, Master of Fate follows automatically.

Guide notes

Does Difficulty Affect Trophies in Final Fantasy VII Remake?

Yes. Hardened Veteran requires every story chapter to be completed on Hard, and Hard only unlocks after finishing the game once. Your first playthrough can be completed on any available setting.

The Hard label attached to Whack-a-Box refers to that minigame's course, not the current story difficulty. You can lower the main game to Easy for minigame cleanup. Hard-only simulator battles still require a Chapter 17 Hard load before they become available.

On PS5, the January 2026 Streamlined Progression update allows combat assists without disabling trophies. The important exception is Max Materia Levels, which should never be activated before Materia for Beginners has unlocked because maxed copies remain maxed after the setting is disabled. PS4 does not have these assists and follows the original difficulty curve.

Guide notes

Collectibles and Completion Requirements

You do not need every chest, materia, armor piece, accessory or manuscript. The Platinum tracks a smaller set of named collections and completion records.

Music Discs

All 31 music discs must be collected. Most come from shops, jukeboxes or clearly marked NPCs. Chapter Select makes cleanup straightforward, and the Music Collection menu shows numbered gaps. A missing number is more useful than revisiting every vendor in order.

Weapons and Weapon Abilities

There are six weapons for each of the four playable characters, making 24 in total. Equip each weapon and repeatedly use its unique ability until the proficiency bar reaches 100 percent. Once mastered, that character can use the ability with any weapon.

A few weapons come from steals, side activities or easily overlooked chests. Check the weapon inventory against the Play Log before beginning Hard Mode. PS5 players can use the faster weapon-proficiency assist after Materia for Beginners is secure.

Battle Intel and Enemy Skills

Complete all 20 Battle Intel reports for Intelligence Agent. These tasks also unlock materia, summons and late combat simulations. Several reports progress naturally, while the weapon-ability, stagger and materia-type tasks need deliberate setup.

Master of Mimicry requires all four enemy skills:

  • Algid Aura from Cerulean Drake.
  • Spirit Siphon from Phantom.
  • Self-Destruct from enemies such as Smogger or Varghidpolis.
  • Bad Breath from Malboro in the postgame Chapter 17 simulator.

Equip Enemy Skill materia on the character being hit by the ability. The skill only records when the equipped character successfully learns it.

Bridal Dress Requirements

Each character has three dresses. The game records them through chapter choices and side-quest totals.

CharacterDress Condition 1Dress Condition 2Dress Condition 3
TifaChoose Mature during Alone at Last in Chapter 3Choose Sporty during Alone at LastChoose Exotic during Alone at Last
AerithComplete 0-2 Chapter 8 questsComplete 3-5 Chapter 8 questsComplete all 6 Chapter 8 quests
CloudComplete no Chapter 9 side questsComplete Sam's route, including The Party Never Stops and A Dynamite BodyComplete Madam M's route, including The Price of Thievery and Shears' Counterattack

Complete all Chapter 3 side quests to unlock Tifa's Alone at Last discovery. Skipping the choice produces the default Mature result, but deliberately selecting each option is safer for tracking.

For Cloud, Burning Thighs can appear alongside either quest branch. The route-defining quests are the two Sam quests or the two Madam M quests listed above. Confirm Cloud's dress in the Play Log before overwriting the route with another Chapter Select run.

Use these choice sets to force the two quest branches reliably:

Chapter 9 ChoiceSam RouteMadam M Route
Description of TifaShe's in great shapeShe's great at handling the books
Vagabond Johnny discoveryFollow Johnny and answer YeahSkip the discovery
Sam's coin tossChoose Heads or TailsChoose No deal
Madam M massagePoor Man's CourseLuxury Course
Aerith's outfitIt's alrightLooks comfortable

The route is decided by a point system, so follow one column consistently. Burning Thighs appears on either route and should also be completed when pursuing that route's dress.

Johnny Incidents

The five Johnny incidents span Chapters 3, 9 and 14. The Party Never Stops is the important routing point because it only appears on Sam's Chapter 9 branch. Complete that route once, then finish Johnny's Chapter 14 quest and other marked encounters. The Play Log confirms whether all five have registered.

Guide notes

Best Materia Setup for Hard Mode

Hard Mode rewards efficient healing, reliable blocking and low-MP damage. It is more build-focused than the reflex-heavy encounters covered in the God of War Ragnarok trophy guide.

A dependable standard-route setup includes:

  • HP Up on every active character, with a second copy on fragile party members when needed.
  • MP Up on the main healer and offensive caster.
  • Healing + Magnify for efficient party recovery.
  • Revival on at least two characters during major bosses.
  • Prayer and Chakra for healing without spending MP.
  • Steadfast Block to reduce damage and build ATB while defending.
  • First Strike for immediate opening actions in normal encounters.
  • Elemental + Fire in armor for the Top Secrets challenge, especially once Elemental is highly levelled.
  • Elemental + an enemy weakness in a weapon when a chapter has a consistent elemental theme.

Cloud's Counterstance is one of the safest answers to physical bosses. Tifa should build stagger percentage with Unbridled Strength and True Strike. Aerith should preserve MP for high-value healing and elemental pressure rather than clearing ordinary enemies with expensive spells.

Break Shinra boxes whenever possible because they can restore MP. Finish standard encounters with weapon abilities and basic attacks, then spend magic on bosses or enemies that must be pressured quickly.

Clean up faster

General Platinum Tips

01

Use the Play Log as the Main Checklist

The Play Log tracks dresses, quests, music discs, weapons, Battle Intel and other completion totals. Check it after every cleanup chapter. This prevents a completed route from being overwritten before its result registers.

02

Do Not Rush Past Aerith's Chapter 9 Challenge

Aerith's solo Corneo Colosseum challenge is available after Hell House while she is still in the party. Complete it before leaving the arena. It becomes inconvenient to access later and is required among the combat challenges leading to Top Secrets.

03

Separate Story Difficulty From Minigame Difficulty

Whack-a-Box's Normal and Hard courses are separate score challenges. The same principle applies to Fort Condor in INTERmission. Lowering the story difficulty does not lower their trophy requirements, but it can make the surrounding chapter faster.

04

Build Stagger Percentage on Fat Chocobo

For Staggering Feat, fight Fat Chocobo in Chadley's VR simulation. Use Tifa's Unbridled Strength before the stagger, then alternate Rise and Fall, Omnistrike and True Strike after it begins. Turn off 9,999 damage on PS5 so the target survives long enough to reach 300 percent.

05

Clear Easy Chapter-Specific Trophies During the First Run

Biker Boy, Cleanup Crew, In Lockstep and Dancing Queen are quick when handled at their natural story points. Chapter Select removes the risk of permanent failure, but replaying a full chapter for one short interaction still wastes time.

Guide notes

Missable Trophies in Final Fantasy VII Remake

No base trophy is permanently missable. Chapter Select lets you revisit every chapter after the first story completion, and retained progress makes cleanup safe.

Several trophies are still easy to pass during a chapter:

  • Biker Boy depends on the Chapter 4 motorcycle result.
  • Cleanup Crew requires a detour behind the Chapter 6 ventilation fans.
  • In Lockstep requires the optional coordinated lever sequence in Chapter 7.
  • Dancing Queen depends on the Honeybee Inn dance score.
  • Divine Gratitude requires the Angel's Letter after the correct 24-quest route. If it does not appear, confirm every Chapter 14 quest is complete, then fast travel away and return to reload the area.
  • The Johnny Experience needs Sam's Chapter 9 route at least once.
  • Dressed to the Nines requires three different quest and dialogue outcomes across repeated chapters.

Aerith's solo Colosseum challenges are not trophies, but missing the postgame fight delays access to Top Secrets and Ultimate Weapon. Revisit Chapter 9 after the story and complete every Aerith challenge immediately after Hell House.

Chapter Select makes this cleanup more forgiving than the consequence-heavy quest route covered in The Witcher 3 trophy guide. The main risk is wasted time, not a ruined save.

Guide notes

Hardest Trophies and Boss Strategies

Hardened Veteran

Without PS5 assists, Hard Mode is the main Platinum challenge. Items cannot be used, enemies deal more damage and MP does not return at benches. Treat each chapter as a resource-management run.

Use Prayer and Chakra for routine healing, reserve Magnify + Healing for emergencies and carry Revival on multiple characters. Equip Steadfast Block on characters who spend time under AI control. Exploit weaknesses with the cheapest useful spell rather than repeatedly casting the strongest version.

Cloud's Counterstance handles many physical bosses safely. Tifa should convert stagger windows into damage, while Aerith should keep distance and use Soul Drain when an enemy allows safe MP recovery. Save before major encounters so a poor MP state does not force a full chapter replay.

PS5 Streamlined Progression removes most of this pressure. Full HP and MP, faster ATB and Limit gain, and boosted damage can remain active while earning Hardened Veteran.

Ultimate Weapon

Three-Person Team vs. Top Secrets contains five consecutive encounters: Shiva, Fat Chocobo, Leviathan, Bahamut with an Ifrit phase, then Pride and Joy Prototype.

A reliable standard party is Cloud, Tifa and Aerith. Use Elemental + Fire in armor, Healing + Magnify, Revival, HP Up and Steadfast Block. A highly levelled Elemental materia can neutralize or absorb dangerous fire damage during the later rounds.

Pressure Shiva with fire, punish Fat Chocobo during its long openings and use lightning against Leviathan when practical. Against Bahamut, build stagger quickly and interrupt or survive Megaflare with Reprieve, revival planning or a well-timed Limit. Ifrit enters during this fight, but fire protection lets the party focus on Bahamut first. Pride and Joy is slower than the earlier rounds and is vulnerable to lightning, so attack its legs and avoid standing directly in front of its grabs and beam attacks.

The reward is Götterdämmerung. Equip it during the Hard playthrough to start fights with a Limit Break and regenerate the gauge over time.

That's the Smell

Malboro appears in Three-Person Team vs. Monsters of Legend. Stay behind or beside it to avoid Bad Breath and other frontal attacks. Equip Enemy Skill materia on an active character because Bad Breath is also required for Master of Mimicry.

Use ranged pressure when the arena becomes unsafe, then punish Malboro after its larger attacks. Cleansing materia can remove status effects if Bad Breath catches the party.

Peeress of Pull-Ups

The final pull-up round against Jules is the hardest non-combat execution check. The button pattern changes each attempt and accelerates over time. Accuracy matters more than early speed because one fall usually costs the round.

Read the displayed sequence before starting, keep a steady rhythm and accelerate only after the prompts fade. Mute distracting dialogue if necessary and restart immediately after an early fall. Streamlined Progression does not affect this minigame.

Dressed to the Nines

The challenge is routing rather than difficulty. Use three clean outcome sets instead of mixing choices randomly:

  1. First story run with one Tifa choice, all six Aerith quests and one Chapter 9 quest branch.
  2. Hard run with a second Tifa choice, three to five Aerith quests and the other Chapter 9 branch.
  3. Partial cleanup with the final Tifa choice, zero to two Aerith quests and no Chapter 9 side quests.

Complete Chapters 3 and 8 after setting their outcomes. In Chapter 9, wait until each dress appears and the Play Log updates before loading another chapter.

Guide notes

INTERmission DLC Trophies

Episode INTERmission is included with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on PS5 and has nine separate trophies. These are not required for Master of Fate.

Expect two chapter runs, one on any difficulty and one on Hard, plus Fort Condor, Happy Turtle flyers, Shinra Box Buster and superboss cleanup. Chapter Select prevents permanent missables. PS5 Streamlined Progression also reduces the DLC combat difficulty, but it does not complete Fort Condor or Box Buster challenges for you.

Quick answers

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to Platinum Final Fantasy VII Remake?

The PS5 route takes about 30-40 hours with Streamlined Progression. The original PS4 route or a PS5 run without assists usually takes 60-80 hours.

How hard is the Final Fantasy VII Remake Platinum?

It is about 3/10 with current PS5 assists and about 6/10 through the standard route. Hard Mode and Top Secrets create most of the original difficulty, while pull-ups remain execution-based on every version.

Are there missable trophies in Final Fantasy VII Remake?

No trophy is permanently missable because Chapter Select unlocks after the story. Several chapter-specific trophies and dress outcomes can be skipped temporarily and cleaned up later.

Does difficulty affect trophies in Final Fantasy VII Remake?

Yes. You must complete all 18 chapters on Hard for Hardened Veteran, but the first run can use any available difficulty.

How many playthroughs are needed for the Platinum?

Two full story runs are required, followed by partial Chapter Select cleanup for the third set of dresses and any missed activities.

What is the hardest trophy in Final Fantasy VII Remake?

Hardened Veteran is usually hardest without assists because it requires the complete game on Hard with item and MP restrictions. With PS5 Streamlined Progression, Peeress of Pull-Ups is often the main remaining skill check.

How many trophies are in Final Fantasy VII Remake?

The base list has 54 trophies: 44 Bronze, 7 Silver, 2 Gold and 1 Platinum. The PS5 list shows 63 when the nine INTERmission trophies are included.

Does Final Fantasy VII Remake have online trophies?

No. Every base-game and INTERmission trophy can be earned offline.

Can PS5 Streamlined Progression be used for trophies?

Yes. Streamlined Progression options can be used while unlocking trophies. Never activate Max Materia Levels before Materia for Beginners unlocks, and turn off 9,999 damage when an enemy needs to survive for stagger setup. If every materia copy was already maxed, restore an earlier save or use a fresh save with an unlevelled orb.

Is INTERmission required for the Platinum?

No. INTERmission is a separate nine-trophy DLC group and does not affect Master of Fate.

Can PS4 trophies auto-pop on PS5?

Yes. Upload a completed save from the PS4 version, then import it into Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on PS5. Earned base-game trophies should unlock from the transferred save. The transfer is one-way from PS4 to PS5.

When does Hard Mode unlock?

Hard Mode and Chapter Select unlock after completing Chapter 18 and finishing the story once.

Do you need every materia and item for the Platinum?

No. You need the 20 Battle Intel reports, four enemy skills, all weapon abilities and the other named trophy collections, but there is no trophy for owning every ordinary materia, armor piece, accessory, manuscript or chest item.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is a structured Platinum rather than a permanently missable one. Complete a thorough first run, use the Play Log to direct Chapter Select cleanup, then finish Hard Mode and the late combat simulations.
