Bloodborne Trophy Guide and Platinum Walkthrough

This Bloodborne trophy guide covers a 7/10 platinum taking 50+ hours, with one-playthrough missables, mandatory Chalice Dungeons, and three ending trophies.

Updated July 2026

Bloodborne Trophy Guide Quick Info

Platinum difficulty 7 / 10
Time to platinum 50+ hours
Trophies 34 total: 20 Bronze, 7 Silver, 6 Gold, 1 Platinum
Playthroughs 1 with a save backup, otherwise up to 3 ending runs
Online trophies None. Co-op is optional
Missables Hunter's Essence setup, Living String, optional bosses, and optional areas before NG+
Difficulty trophies None. Bloodborne has no difficulty setting
Chalice Dungeons Required. Only preset story chalices are needed
Hardest trophy Yharnam, Pthumerian Queen. Level 120+ is recommended
Glitched trophies Hunter's Essence has occasional delayed-unlock reports

Spoiler note: Boss names, late-game areas, and all three endings are discussed below.

Among PlayStation trophy guides, Bloodborne stands out because the platinum's longest requirement is a fixed dungeon chain rather than an online grind.

Bloodborne Platinum Roadmap

1

Phase 1: Main Story and Boss Trophies

Play through the main story while clearing every optional area. Defeat Cleric Beast, Blood-starved Beast, the Witch of Hemwick, Darkbeast Paarl, Amygdala, Martyr Logarius, Celestial Emissary, and Ebrietas before triggering the ending. Open Cainhurst, Upper Cathedral Ward, the Abandoned Old Workshop, and both floors of the Lecture Building.

Keep Eileen the Crow's quest active so you can obtain the Crow Hunter Badge and buy the Blade of Mercy. Collect all nine special hunter tools, at least three One Third of Umbilical Cord items, and every weapon badge you encounter. In the Nightmare of Mensis, drop and kill the Brain of Mensis for the Living String before entering NG+.

Like Demon's Souls, Bloodborne can close unfinished NPC and area routes when the world state advances, so late-game cleanup should happen before the final choice.

2

Phase 2: Chalice Dungeons and the Queen

Defeat Blood-starved Beast for the Pthumeru Chalice, then follow the preset chain through Pthumeru, Central Pthumeru, Lower Pthumeru, Ailing Loran, Cursed Pthumerian Defilement, and Great Pthumeru Ihyll. Lower Loran is also needed in a one-playthrough route for two Red Jelly materials.

Take the Workshop Haze Extractor from Lower Pthumeru and the Beast Claw from Ailing Loran. Explore the side rooms instead of rushing directly to each lever, since the preset dungeons contain most materials required for the next ritual. A +10 weapon, 40 to 50 Vitality, and a character near level 120 make the cursed dungeon much more manageable.

3

Phase 3: Endings and Cleanup

After defeating Mergo's Wet Nurse, stop when the Hunter's Dream is burning. Finish all optional bosses, weapons, tools, and Chalice Dungeon work, then back up your save before speaking to Gehrman. Reload that backup after each ending to earn Yharnam Sunrise, Honouring Wishes, and Childhood's Beginning in one playthrough.

For the Burial Blade, defeat Gehrman during the Childhood's Beginning route, let the Moon Presence defeat you, then buy the weapon with the Old Hunter Badge before returning to the final boss. Once all other base-game trophies are complete, Bloodborne unlocks automatically.

Difficulty, NG+, and Co-op Notes

Bloodborne has no difficulty options and no difficulty-related trophies. The challenge comes from learning aggressive combat, surviving the Defiled Chalice's health penalty, and managing the one-run ending route. Its rally-focused pace also creates a different learning curve from Dark Souls Remastered.

The game moves directly into NG+ after most endings, with no post-ending free roam. Preset Chalice Dungeon progress carries into NG+, and those dungeons do not scale with the story cycle. There are no online trophies, although optional co-op can help with difficult bosses.

Missable Trophies in Bloodborne

Nothing is permanently lost because NG+ remains available, but several choices can break a one-playthrough platinum route. Finish this section before speaking to Gehrman.

Hunter's Essence and Missable Weapons

Hunter's Essence requires 26 weapons on one character. Normal, Uncanny, and Lost versions count as the same weapon, so you only need one version of each. Keep the weapons until the trophy unlocks.

Right-hand weapons: Saw Cleaver, Saw Spear, Hunter Axe, Threaded Cane, Kirkhammer, Ludwig's Holy Blade, Reiterpallasch, Chikage, Rifle Spear, Stake Driver, Tonitrus, Logarius' Wheel, Blade of Mercy, Burial Blade, Beast Claw.

Left-hand weapons: Hunter Pistol, Hunter Blunderbuss, Repeating Pistol, Ludwig's Rifle, Evelyn, Cannon, Flamesprayer, Rosmarinus, Torch, Hunter's Torch, Wooden Shield.

The Blade of Mercy is purchased after obtaining the Crow Hunter Badge from Eileen's quest or by defeating her. The Burial Blade becomes available after defeating Gehrman. The Beast Claw is inside a Layer 2 side area of Ailing Loran. Cainhurst and its related NPC routes also provide access to Chikage, Evelyn, Reiterpallasch, and Logarius' Wheel.

If Hunter's Essence does not unlock, compare both weapon tabs against the list. The Torch, Hunter's Torch, Wooden Shield, Beast Claw, and one of the starting weapons are the most common omissions. Buying the remaining starter weapons again can also trigger a delayed unlock.

Living String and the Final Ritual

The Great Pthumeru Ihyll ritual requires one Living String. In the Nightmare of Mensis, use the cage lift near Mergo's Loft: Middle, jump through its open window, cross the Winter Lantern bridge, and pull the lever that drops the Brain of Mensis. Descend into the dark pit, approach the Brain, and kill it to receive the material.

Collect the Living String before finishing the game. The Brain can still be reached late in the first playthrough, but entering NG+ forces you to progress through the story again before reacquiring the Living String.

Hunter's Craft, Optional Areas, and Bosses

Hunter's Craft requires Old Hunter Bone, Beast Roar, Empty Phantasm Shell, Tiny Tonitrus, Augur of Ebrietas, Messenger's Gift, Executioner's Gloves, A Call Beyond, and Choir Bell. Several sit in optional areas, so collect all nine before the ending.

Cainhurst, Upper Cathedral Ward, the Nightmare Frontier, Hemwick Charnel Lane, and the Abandoned Old Workshop can all be left unfinished. Their bosses, tools, badges, and area trophies remain obtainable until you trigger NG+.

Chalice Dungeon Walkthrough

Only preset story chalices are required. Root, Sinister, and community glyph dungeons are not part of the standard platinum route. The practical order below includes the Loran branches needed for materials.

Step Dungeon or task Ritual requirements Platinum goal
1 Pthumeru Labyrinth Ritual Blood (1) x2, 1,000 Blood Echoes Clear three layers and obtain Central Pthumeru.
2 Central Pthumeru Ritual Blood (2) x6, 1,800 Blood Echoes Clear three layers and obtain Lower Pthumeru.
3 Lower Pthumeru Ritual Blood (3) x9, 3,200 Blood Echoes Clear four layers, take the Workshop Haze Extractor on Layer 2, and obtain the Defiled Chalice.
4 Ailing Loran Ritual Blood (4) x9, Coldblood Flowerbud x4, 5,500 Blood Echoes Take the Beast Claw and at least two Bastards of Loran. Completing it also gives Lower Loran.
5 Cursed Pthumerian Defilement Ritual Blood (4) x9, Bastard of Loran x2, Arcane Haze x22, 5,500 Blood Echoes Survive the 50 percent health curse and defeat Amygdala for Great Pthumeru Ihyll.
6 Lower Loran material run Ritual Blood (5) x9, Blooming Coldblood Flower x4, 11,500 Blood Echoes Collect one Red Jelly on Layer 2 and one on Layer 3.
7 Great Pthumeru Ihyll Ritual Blood (5) x9, Red Jelly x4, Arcane Haze x25, Living String x1, 11,500 Blood Echoes Defeat the Layer 3 Pthumerian Queen.

Two Red Jelly items are in the Lecture Building 1F storage room, while Lower Loran supplies the other two. Great Isz can also provide Red Jelly, but it is not necessary when the Lower Loran route is complete. Use the Workshop Haze Extractor at the Hunter's Dream workbench to convert spare ritual materials into Arcane Haze.

Explore every pre-lamp and pre-boss side room. The preset dungeons are designed to provide most of the Ritual Blood needed for the next depth, although an enemy farm may be necessary if you miss a chest. Chalice progress remains intact in NG+, and dungeon difficulty does not increase with the story cycle.

Bloodborne Endings Guide

Create a cloud or USB save backup after Mergo's Wet Nurse, when the Hunter's Dream is burning, before speaking to Gehrman. Do not consume any cords until the route calls for them.

Yharnam Sunrise

Speak to Gehrman and choose Submit Your Life. The ending plays immediately and unlocks Yharnam Sunrise. Restore the backup afterward.

Honouring Wishes

Choose Refuse, then defeat Gehrman without consuming three One Third of Umbilical Cord items. This unlocks Honouring Wishes. Restore the backup again.

Childhood's Beginning

Consume any three One Third of Umbilical Cord items before the choice, then refuse Gehrman and defeat him. The Moon Presence fight begins next. Defeat it to unlock Childhood's Beginning.

Four cords are available. One is in the Abandoned Old Workshop, one comes from Imposter Iosefka after the Blood Moon, one comes from Arianna's quest after Micolash, and one is awarded after Mergo's Wet Nurse. You only need three.

Hardest Trophies and Boss Strategies

Bloodborne belongs in hardest PlayStation platinums discussions mainly because Cursed Pthumerian Defilement halves your maximum health. The Queen is the trophy target, but the Watchdog and Amygdala are usually the real barriers.

01

Watchdog of the Old Lords

Stay in front at medium range and bait the head swipes, bites, and lava-vomit animation. Punish the head with one or two attacks, then reset your spacing. Breaking its head creates a long stagger and increases damage to that area.

Do not stand beside the legs for extended combos. Watch for the full-body charge and the expanding explosion in the final phase, since either can end a cursed run immediately. Bolt or strong physical damage is preferable to fire against this boss.

02

Defiled Amygdala

Fight from the front and wait for arm slams that leave the head low. Land one strong attack on the head and back away instead of chasing extra damage. Once Amygdala tears off its arms, the reach increases and patience matters even more.

A safer final-phase option is to stay near the tail, bait the jump, and move back into position after Amygdala lands. Players comfortable with the measured response windows in Sekiro may adapt quickly to this bait-and-punish rhythm, but greed is still the main cause of failure.

03

Yharnam, Pthumerian Queen

The Queen is less punishing than the two Defiled bosses. Use a fast weapon, attack in short two-hit or three-hit bursts, and retreat when the baby's cries build toward a bind. Her clones disappear after one hit or a single shot, so remove them immediately.

Dodge the blood projectiles sideways and leave the marked floor before blood erupts from it. A +10 weapon and a character around level 120 should be more than enough once you reach her.

The Old Hunters DLC Trophies

The Old Hunters adds six separate trophies: Old Hunter's Essence, Orphan of Kos, Ludwig, the Holy Blade, Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower, Living Failures, and Laurence, the First Vicar. They are required for 100 percent completion, but none is required for the base-game platinum.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to platinum Bloodborne?

Bloodborne takes about 50 or more hours to platinum, depending on boss skill, exploration, and how quickly you clear the Chalice Dungeons.

How hard is the Bloodborne platinum?

The platinum is about 7 out of 10. Most of the difficulty comes from the Defiled Chalice bosses on the route to Yharnam, Pthumerian Queen.

What are the missable trophies in Bloodborne?

The main one-run risks are the Blade of Mercy and Burial Blade for Hunter's Essence, the Living String for Great Pthumeru Ihyll, and any optional bosses or areas left unfinished before NG+.

Do you have to do Chalice Dungeons for the platinum?

Yes. You must complete the preset Pthumeru chain to reach the Queen, and Ailing Loran contains the Beast Claw required for Hunter's Essence.

How do you get all three endings in Bloodborne?

Back up your save before Gehrman, complete one ending, restore the save, and repeat. Childhood's Beginning also requires you to consume three One Third of Umbilical Cord items before refusing Gehrman.

Is Hunter's Essence glitched?

Hunter's Essence has occasional delayed-unlock reports, but most cases involve a missed weapon. Verify all 26 weapons on one character, especially the Beast Claw, both torches, Wooden Shield, Blade of Mercy, and Burial Blade.

Bloodborne's platinum is manageable once the ending backup and dungeon materials are planned before the final choice. Players who would rather skip a difficult Chalice or cleanup bottleneck can use DamnModz's Bloodborne platinum trophy service for game-specific completion support.
