Quick Info
The PlayStation trophy guides use this roadmap-first format to secure chapter-timed work before cleanup.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap
Phase 1: Story Plus the Missables
Play through the story with high honor and keep a manual save at the start of Chapters 2, 3, 4, and 6. Complete every optional Honor story mission, perform one qualifying companion activity in each camp during Chapters 2 through 4, donate $250 to the tithing box, and deliver five requested items to camp companions.
Recover four homestead stashes early for Breaking and Entering. Save before each robbery because owners can die and some opportunities can disappear. Work on simple gold-medal requirements during the first run whenever you know them, but never risk a missable for a faster mission time.
Phase 2: 100% Single-Player Completion
Finish the Epilogue, then use Progress > Total Completion as your master checklist. Clean up 70 gold medals, more than 200 collectible pickups, all 90 challenges, 10 completed Stranger strands, 48 discovered weapons, nine graves, four minigames, 18 bear encounters, and the remaining single-player trophies.
Study animals while traveling, then finish Zoologist and Skin Deep after the 100% trophy. The compendium work extends far beyond the 50 animals needed by the Total Completion checklist. For Pony Up, make a manual save before a major shopping spree, spend until the trophy unlocks, and reload if you want the money back. The Witcher 3 trophy guide uses the same staged approach for a large open-world cleanup.
Phase 3: Red Dead Online
Complete the online introduction, reach rank 50, and clear the remaining multiplayer tasks. Accept Free Roam missions, join Series and Free Roam Events, earn five gold buckles, craft items and ammunition, sell to a butcher, form a persistent posse, and retain enough cash for five horses and five camp improvements.
A partner makes All's Fair and Strength in Numbers much easier. Public matchmaking is still needed for The Real Deal because its three MVP awards require rounds with at least four players. The GTA 5 trophy guide follows the same story-plus-online structure.

Missable Trophies in RDR2
Lending a Hand
Complete every optional Honor story mission during the same normal playthrough. Mission replay is not a safe substitute. Keep positive honor because Chapter 6's “Do Not Seek Absolution” requires Honor rank 4.
The main chains to track are Money Lending and Other Sins, Good, Honest, Snake Oil, We Loved Once and True, The Course of True Love, Help a Brother Out, Brothers and Sisters, One and All, Fatherhood and Other Dreams, Do Not Seek Absolution, Of Men and Angels, Archeology for Beginners, Honor, Amongst Thieves, and Mrs. Sadie Adler, Widow. Check the Story log before ending each chapter and keep chapter-start saves.
Friends With Benefits
Complete one qualifying companion activity in each of the Chapter 2, Chapter 3, and Chapter 4 camps. Examples include Charles' hunt in Chapter 2, a robbery or fishing trip in Chapter 3, and a coach robbery or hunt in Chapter 4. Camp table games do not count. Finish the activity as soon as it appears, then keep the chapter save until the trophy unlocks.
Give to the Poor
Donate $250 of your own money or valuables to the camp tithing box. The amount is cumulative, but contributions from other gang members do not count. The box is available only in Chapters 2 through 4, so finish this before advancing beyond Chapter 4.
Errand Boy
Accept and complete five companion item requests during Chapters 2 through 4. Requests appear at different camp times and are easy to miss if you only return for story missions. Spend time around camp, speak to everyone, and deliver outstanding items before waiting for more requests.
Breaking and Entering Manual-Save Warning
Breaking and Entering is not one of the four officially listed missables, but homestead stashes can become unavailable if owners are killed or an encounter is handled incorrectly. Make a manual save before each robbery and recover four stashes during Chapters 2 and 3 where possible.
Gold Medals Guide
Gold Rush requires 70 gold medals from 104 story missions, so you can ignore your 34 worst missions. Favor short missions with simple accuracy, headshot, item-use, and time objectives. Build a shortlist of about 75 realistic missions to leave room for a few that prove unreliable.
Gold requirements appear only after a mission's first completion. Easy first-run medals still save time when you know the objectives in advance. Current versions generally carry your weapons and stats into replay, making cleanup less restrictive than at launch. Restart the mission after failing a key requirement instead of relying on a checkpoint, then confirm the medal before moving on.
Collectibles and Animals
Best in the West follows the game's Total Completion checklist rather than demanding literally everything. The major workloads include more than 200 collectible pickups, all 90 challenges, 10 complete Stranger strands, graves, legendary fish, hunting requests, gang content, table games, discovery targets, and 48 of the available weapons. Although 22 of the 26 Stranger strands can count, the trophy requirement is 10 completed strands.
Collector's Item needs only one eligible strand, with the 10 rock carvings usually being the quickest. Best in the West eventually requires much broader collectible cleanup, so use Progress > Total Completion instead of guessing what remains.
The animal trophies go beyond 100% completion. Zoologist requires every applicable compendium species to be studied, while Skin Deep requires every applicable skinnable species. Study an animal with binoculars before shooting whenever possible, then verify the entry in Progress > Compendium > Animals. Guarma-exclusive parrots, snakes, and the red-footed booby are not required. The Cuban land crab and green iguana can be found on the main map.
The Ghost of Tsushima trophy guide is a lighter open-world comparison with far less wildlife cataloging.
Red Dead Online Trophies
Red Dead Online contributes 17 trophy objectives, and the Platinum depends on every one. Rockstar listed the PlayStation 4 service as operational on July 12, 2026. Start with the introduction, then combine online story missions, Free Roam work, Series, Events, and Award progress while building the 175,300 XP needed for rank 50.
Use a partner for All's Fair and Strength in Numbers. For All's Fair, form separate posses, have one player start a counterable Free Roam mission, and let the other stop it after the rival notification appears. For Strength in Numbers, complete any Free Roam mission in a posse containing at least two members. The Real Deal must be done in public rounds with four or more players, so focus on objective modes where captures or deliveries can earn MVP even without the most eliminations.
Do not spend all your online cash early. Horses for Courses, Posse Up, and Home Comforts require stable slots, a persistent posse, and camp purchases. The RDR2 accounts catalog covers separate prebuilt profiles, so it does not transfer trophy credit to an existing PlayStation profile.
The RDR2 Gold and Cash category applies to an existing online economy. Currency can reduce the purchasing grind for horses, camp improvements, and a posse, but it does not replace the rank, MVP, event, crafting, or mission conditions.
Hardest Trophies and How to Get Them
Gold Rush
Gold Rush is the hardest trophy because it combines execution with dozens of mission replays. Select the easiest 70 missions, keep a five-mission buffer, and abandon any target that repeatedly wastes more time than an alternative.
Zoologist and Skin Deep
These trophies are long because animal spawns are regional and partly random. Clear the map in region-based sweeps, study before killing, and check the compendium after every rare species so you do not repeat the search later.
Notorious and The Real Deal
Notorious is a time grind to rank 50, while The Real Deal adds a skill and matchmaking requirement. Rotate activities to keep XP moving, then prioritize objective-based Series when working on the three MVP awards.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to platinum Red Dead Redemption 2?
The Platinum takes around 240 to 300 hours. Expect roughly 200 hours for Story Mode completion and another 40 to 100 hours in Red Dead Online.
How hard is the RDR2 Platinum?
The RDR2 Platinum is about 6/10. Most requirements are manageable with a checklist, but the four missables, 70 gold medals, animal catalogue, and online grind demand consistency.
What are the missable trophies in RDR2?
The four missable trophies are Lending a Hand, Friends With Benefits, Give to the Poor, and Errand Boy. They depend on optional missions, camp activities, donations, or requests that expire as the story advances.
Do you need Red Dead Online for the Platinum?
Yes. You must earn all 17 Red Dead Online trophies, including Notorious for reaching rank 50.
Does difficulty affect trophies in RDR2?
No. RDR2 has no difficulty setting, and no trophy is tied to a difficulty mode.
What is the hardest trophy in RDR2?
Gold Rush is the hardest because it requires gold medals in 70 story missions.
How many playthroughs are needed to platinum RDR2?
One full playthrough is enough, followed by mission replays for any missing gold medals.
How many gold medals do you need in RDR2?
You need 70 gold medals from the 104 story missions. This leaves 34 missions that can remain below gold.
Should I do gold medals on my first playthrough?
Complete easy golds during the first playthrough when you know the requirements, since every early medal reduces later replay time. Current mission replays generally retain your present gear and stats, so the remaining cleanup is still practical after the story.
Red Dead Redemption 2 stays manageable when you protect chapter saves, separate 100% completion from the animal cleanup, and treat online as its own phase. The current Red Dead Redemption 2 services cover rank, roles, currency, and separate accounts when one of those is your bottleneck.
