Fallout 3 Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap

Difficulty: 4 out of 10. The level grind is the main cost. Time: 20 to 40 hours, driven by how long level 20 to 30 takes. Minimum route: 1 with correct save management, otherwise 2 to 3. Missables: Two highly missable bobbleheads plus two partially missable, and everything if you lack Broken Steel.

This Fallout 3 trophy guide turns the complete PlayStation list into a checkable Platinum route, with the version, online, missable, and cleanup risks kept in the order they matter.

Efficient route

Fallout 3 Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap

Follow these phases in order to protect the missable work and keep the Fallout 3 Platinum cleanup efficient.

1

Phase 0: Two rules before you start

If you do not have Broken Steel, do not start Take it Back! until everything else on the list is done. The game ends there with no return.

If you are streaming on PS5, understand that the DLC is reportedly unavailable, so 100 percent needs original PS3 hardware.

Play as a good karma character. Karma is far easier to lose than gain, so bank it high and drop it deliberately later.

2

Phase 1: Main quests and the wasteland

Work the main and side quests, reaching at least level 8 along the way and exploring widely for XP.

Grab the two highly missable bobbleheads and the two partially missable ones as you pass them.

Do not finish Take it Back! Stop just before the assault on the Purifier.

3

Phase 2: The level 20 karma trophies

Save in a fresh slot just before levelling to 20.

Level up with good karma to take that trophy, then reload and shift karma to neutral for the second, then to bad for the third.

Check your karma on the Pip-Boy before each level up so you are certain which band you are in.

4

Phase 3: The DLC packs

Operation Anchorage, The Pitt and Point Lookout can be done at any point once activated.

On Mothership Zeta, collect all 25 Alien Recordings as you go, since some locations cannot be revisited after the story.

All DLC trophies can be earned on very easy, so drop the difficulty if you only want the trophies.

5

Phase 4: Broken Steel and level 30

Broken Steel requires the main story finished and raises the level cap to 30. Three story missions each award a trophy.

Save before levelling to 30. Three level-30-only perks alter your karma, one each for good, neutral and bad, which is the cleanest way to take all three trophies.

Who Dares Wins awards enormous XP and a plus or minus 1000 karma swing, so back up your save before it if you are not yet level 30.

This is where the platinum becomes a levelling grind. One soft mention of DamnModz fits here.

Guide notes

Do Not Start Take it Back! Yet

First section after the Quick Info box. Without the Broken Steel DLC installed the game ends after that quest, and there is no return. Every non-story trophy still outstanding becomes missable at that point unless you have an earlier save. Do everything else first.

Guide notes

DLC and PS5 Streaming

PSNProfiles reports the DLC is not available when streaming Fallout 3 on PS5 and can only be played on original PS3 hardware. That means cloud streaming players can earn the base platinum but cannot reach 100 percent.

Efficient route

The Karma Trophies, Two Methods

At level 20 for the base platinum, save just before levelling, take one karma trophy, reload, shift karma and repeat. With Broken Steel installed there is a cleaner route at level 30, since three level-30-only perks alter your karma, one each for good, neutral and bad. Save before levelling to 30 and all three come easily without killing anyone.

1

Play Good Karma

Good karma is much harder to gain than to lose, so keep it high and drop it deliberately when you need to. Donating at the Megaton church, killing slavers and giving water to the homeless are the fastest ways up.

2

The Bobbleheads

Two are highly missable and two more are partially missable. Name them and their locations, since they are the only true collectible risk in the base game.

Efficient route

The Five DLC Packs

, an H3 each. Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta. Broken Steel is the longest at around 4 hours of story plus the levelling, and it cannot be started until the main story is done. Note all DLC trophies can be earned on very easy.

1

Mothership Zeta Recordings

25 Alien Recordings, and you cannot return to every location after the story, so they must be collected as you go.

2

The Broken Steel Choice

At the Satellite Tower you can bomb Adams Air Force Base for positive karma or the Citadel for negative karma, which turns every Paladin hostile. Relevant to the karma trophies, so plan the order.

Guide notes

Fallout 3 Missable, Glitched, and Difficulty Notes

  • Without the Broken Steel DLC, every non-story trophy becomes missable once you start the assault on the Purifier during Take it Back!, because the game ends there with no return.
  • Two bobbleheads are highly missable and two more are partially missable.
  • The DLC is reportedly unavailable when streaming Fallout 3 on PS5, so cloud streaming players cannot reach 100 percent even though the base platinum is achievable.
  • The karma trophies exist twice, at level 20 for the base game and at level 30 with Broken Steel. Both need save manipulation to avoid multiple playthroughs.
  • Who Dares Wins awards a huge amount of XP and a 1000 point karma swing, so back up before it if you are not yet level 30.
  • On Mothership Zeta the 25 Alien Recordings must be collected during the playthrough, since some locations cannot be revisited.
  • Difficulty does not affect trophies directly, but it changes levelling speed which affects the karma trophies indirectly. All DLC trophies can be earned on very easy.

Quick answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need the DLC for the Fallout 3 platinum?

No, the base platinum is base-game only. But without Broken Steel you must not start Take it Back! until everything else is done, because the game ends there with no way back.

Can you get Fallout 3 DLC trophies by streaming on PS5?

Reports say no. The DLC is only available on the original PS3 version, so cloud streaming players can earn the base platinum but not full 100 percent completion.

How do you get all three karma trophies in one playthrough?

Save just before levelling up, take one karma trophy, then reload and shift your karma for the next. With Broken Steel there is a cleaner route, since three level-30-only perks alter karma one each for good, neutral and bad.

How long does it take to platinum Fallout 3?

Around 20 to 40 hours for full completion, driven almost entirely by how long the level 20 to 30 climb takes you.

Should you play good or evil in Fallout 3?

Good, as your default. Karma is much harder to gain than to lose, so bank it high then drop it deliberately when you need the neutral and bad karma trophies.

Are there missable trophies in Fallout 3?

Two bobbleheads are highly missable and two more partially so. And without Broken Steel, everything outstanding becomes missable the moment you finish Take it Back!.

Does difficulty affect trophies in Fallout 3?

No, and all DLC trophies can be earned on very easy. Difficulty does change how fast you level though, which indirectly affects the karma trophies.

What does Broken Steel add?

It raises the level cap from 20 to 30, adds three story missions each awarding a trophy, and adds the three level 30 karma trophies. It also removes the hard ending after Take it Back!.
