Efficient route

Fallout: New Vegas Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap

Follow these phases in order to protect the missable work and keep the Fallout: New Vegas Platinum cleanup efficient.

1

Phase 0: Plan your build and your saves

Take Intelligence high for faster levelling, and Luck high for the casino and gambling trophies. Both are decided at character creation and matter dozens of hours later.

Turn Hardcore Mode ON at the start and set the difficulty to very easy. Hardcore is a realism mode and works on any difficulty.

Plan to make a permanent save before the Hoover Dam battle. That single save is what turns four playthroughs into one.

2

Phase 1: The Mojave and the minor factions

Work through the main story while getting to know the tribes, the Great Khans, Omertas, White Glove Society, Brotherhood of Steel and Boomers. This eases every faction line later.

Bank the cumulative trophies as you play, unarmed damage, healing with food, crafting, weapon mods and the casino games.

Watch the five named missables as you go, and back up saves around The Whole Gang's Here since it is also the reported glitched trophy.

Reach level 30, which needs at least 66,700 XP without DLC.

3

Phase 2: The permanent save and the first ending

Progress each faction line as far as you can without committing, then make a permanent save in its own slot before the Hoover Dam battle.

Complete one faction ending. Finishing any of them unlocks Hardcore, at which point you can switch Hardcore Mode off if you want.

Save your preferred canon ending for last, since the game ends after each one.

4

Phase 3: The other three endings

Reload the permanent save and take the second faction ending, then repeat for the third and fourth.

Yes Man is the shortest and easiest line, so use it if anything went wrong and you need a quick route.

This is the section buyers most want handled, since it is the part that turns an 80 hour game into a longer one. One soft mention of DamnModz fits here.

5

Phase 4: Cleanup and the platinum

Finish any outstanding cumulative trophies from your last reload.

If The Whole Gang's Here failed to unlock, that is the known glitched trophy. Reload a backup rather than assuming a replay is needed.

The DLC adds 25 more trophies but none count toward the platinum, so treat it as optional.

Guide notes

Save Before Hoover Dam

First section after the Quick Info box. Finishing a faction quest line ends the game and you cannot play on. Four faction endings are required, so you need a permanent save made before the Hoover Dam battle that you reload for each. Overwrite it and you replay the entire game from scratch, since there is no New Game Plus.

Guide notes

Hardcore Mode Is Not a Difficulty

It is closer to a realism mode, adding food, water and sleep needs and weighted ammo, and it can be run on any difficulty including very easy. Better still, once the Hardcore trophy unlocks by finishing a faction storyline you can switch it off, which makes the rest of the game easier.

Guide notes

The Four Faction Endings

, an H3 each. NCR, Caesar's Legion, Mr. House and Yes Man. Play as far as possible before committing, make the permanent save, then work through the other three by reloading, saving your preferred canon ending for last. Yes Man is the shortest and easiest, which makes it the right choice if a second run is needed.

Efficient route

The Five Missables, Named

Hardcore, The Whole Gang's Here, You'll Know It When It Happens, The Courier Who Broke the Bank and Legend of the Star. The Whole Gang's Here is also the one reported glitched trophy, so treat it with extra care and back up saves around it.

1

Getting to Know the Tribes

The Yes Man Wild Card quest asks you to meet the Great Khans, Omertas, White Glove Society, Brotherhood of Steel and Boomers. Doing this early eases every other faction line, since the others also want you to deal with the Boomers and the Brotherhood.

2

Level 30 and the XP Requirement

At least 66,700 XP without DLC. Intelligence as a primary stat speeds this considerably, which is a character creation decision made hours earlier.

Efficient route

The Casino and Cumulative Trophies

Caravan wins, slots, roulette and blackjack, plus the damage and healing totals. High Luck makes the casino trophies and The Courier Who Broke the Bank far faster, which again is a build decision.

1

Vault 13 Canteen

From the Courier's Stash DLC, it is extremely useful on a Hardcore run since it supplies water. Worth mentioning even though the DLC is not required.

2

Community Exploits

Various Goodsprings glitches for stats and XP circulate widely.

Guide notes

Fallout: New Vegas Missable, Glitched, and Difficulty Notes

  • Five named missables. Hardcore, The Whole Gang's Here, You'll Know It When It Happens, The Courier Who Broke the Bank and Legend of the Star.
  • The Whole Gang's Here is also the one reported glitched trophy, so back up saves around it.
  • The single biggest risk is not a trophy. Finishing a faction quest line ends the game with no way to play on, so a permanent save before the Hoover Dam battle is essential. Overwriting it means replaying the entire game.
  • There is no New Game Plus, so a second run starts from scratch.
  • Hardcore Mode can be played on any difficulty including very easy, and it can be switched off once the trophy unlocks by finishing a faction storyline.
  • The DLC is not required for the platinum, though the Vault 13 Canteen from Courier's Stash is genuinely useful on a Hardcore run.
  • Level 30 without DLC needs at least 66,700 XP, so Intelligence is worth prioritising at character creation.
  • Character creation choices matter for trophies hours later, particularly Luck for the casino and gambling trophies.

Quick answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need the DLC for the Fallout New Vegas platinum?

No. The base platinum is base game only. The four expansions add 25 more trophies but none of them count toward it.

Is Hardcore Mode hard in Fallout New Vegas?

Not in the way people assume. It is a realism mode adding food, water and sleep needs, and it works on any difficulty including very easy. You can also switch it off once the trophy unlocks.

How many playthroughs do you need for the New Vegas platinum?

One, if you make a permanent save before the Hoover Dam battle and reload it for each of the four faction endings. Overwrite that save and you replay the entire game.

How long does it take to platinum Fallout New Vegas?

Around 80 hours or more. It is a long list rather than a difficult one, at roughly 5 out of 10.

Which New Vegas trophies are missable?

Five. Hardcore, The Whole Gang's Here, You'll Know It When It Happens, The Courier Who Broke the Bank and Legend of the Star. The Whole Gang's Here is also reported as glitched.

Which faction ending is easiest in New Vegas?

Yes Man is the shortest and easiest line, which makes it the natural choice if something goes wrong and you need a fast route to the Hardcore trophy.

How much XP do you need for level 30 in New Vegas?

At least 66,700 without the DLC. Prioritising Intelligence at character creation speeds this up considerably.

Is New Vegas harder to platinum than Fallout 3?

No, it is generally considered more attainable. Fallout 3 tends to require multiple playthroughs or heavier save manipulation for its karma trophies.
