Mafia 2 Trophy Guide and Platinum Roadmap
Follow these phases in order to protect the missable work and keep the Mafia 2 Platinum cleanup efficient.
Phase 0: Patch and prepare
On Definitive Edition, install the 1.02 update. Without it the platinum is not obtainable.
Plan to play on Hard from the start, since a Hard completion is required and doing it first avoids a second run.
If you hit a progression-blocking bug, close the app fully and reboot. That resolves almost all of them, and they usually follow rest mode.
Phase 1: Story on Hard with collectibles
Play the story on Hard, collecting Playboy magazines and Wanted Posters as you go. Both have checklists in the main menu.
On Definitive Edition use a Definitive Edition poster route, since roughly 30 were added beyond the original 159.
Pick one garage vehicle as soon as you have access and use it for every journey, which builds the 80 km for One Careful Owner passively.
On the PS3 version, work the ordered missable list, particularly A Real Gentleman in Chapter 2 and the quiet Leo extraction in Chapter 11.
Phase 2: Chapter Select cleanup
On Definitive Edition, use Chapter Select for any outstanding collectibles or missed trophies. Nothing is permanently lost.
Remember that reloading a chapter reverts vehicle upgrades, condition and distance stats to that chapter's autosave.
Collectible pickups save immediately, but only the collectible data, so do not expect other progress to persist.
This is where the collectible sweep becomes a grind. One soft mention of DamnModz fits here.
Phase 3: The DLC packs
Jimmy's Vendetta is score-based with mostly cumulative trophies and only three story-related ones.
Millionaire needs 1,000,000 points. A documented glitch accumulates that in around four hours in one sitting, which lets you play the DLC on Easy rather than Hard.
Joe's Adventures follows the same pattern. Note that saving works differently in these DLCs, through Home locations or by starting a mission.
The Enforcer was previously unobtainable and was fixed on 18 June 2020, so do not skip it.
Guide notes
Install the 1.02 Update First
On Definitive Edition the platinum cannot be earned without it. This is a hard eligibility requirement and it belongs as the first line on the page.
Guide notes
Which Version, and What Changed
A comparison table. The PS3 original has several genuinely missable trophies. Definitive Edition has none, because Chapter Select lets you replay any chapter freely. Definitive Edition also added roughly 30 Wanted Posters on top of the original 159, so a PS3 collectible route will leave you short with no explanation.
Guide notes
Definitive Edition Is Buggier Than the Original
Progression-blocking bugs have been reported, including an invisible wall preventing entry to Leo Galante's mission. They tend to occur after leaving the game suspended in rest mode. Closing the app entirely and rebooting resolves 99 percent of them. This single tip prevents a lot of wasted troubleshooting.
Efficient route
Play on Hard From the Start
A Hard difficulty completion is required, so doing it on your first run avoids a second. Some sections are genuinely tricky on Hard, so note where.
Collect Playboys and Posters During the Story
Both have in-game checklists in the main menu. Picking them up during the story rather than sweeping afterwards saves real time, and each poster triggers an autosave.
One Careful Owner, the Cheap Way
Choose one vehicle from your garage as soon as you have access and never change it, then use it for every journey the story allows. That accumulates the 80 km without a dedicated grind.
The Chapter Reload Quirk
Reloading a chapter reverts vehicle upgrades, condition and the Distance Travelled stat to that chapter's autosave state. Playboys and Wanted Posters save on pickup, but that save records collectible data only, not other progress.
Guide notes
PS3 Missables, In Order
Name them in chapter order, including A Real Gentleman in Chapter 2 which requires waiting for the husband to leave the broken-down car and then talking to the woman, the quiet extraction of Leo in Chapter 11 using laundry sheets to the balcony, and Exporter which is also flagged as missable on a one-playthrough run.
Efficient route
The DLC Packs
Jimmy's Vendetta and Joe's Adventures. Millionaire in Jimmy's Vendetta needs 1,000,000 points, and a documented glitch lets you accumulate that in around four hours in a single sitting, which means you can play the whole DLC on Easy instead of Hard. Note also that saving in Jimmy's Vendetta works differently, via Home locations or by starting missions.

Quick answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you need a patch for the Mafia II platinum?
On Definitive Edition yes. You must install the 1.02 update or the platinum cannot be earned at all.
Are there missable trophies in Mafia II?
On Definitive Edition none, because Chapter Select lets you replay any chapter. On the PS3 original several are missable, including A Real Gentleman in Chapter 2 and the quiet Leo extraction in Chapter 11.
How many Wanted Posters are in Mafia II?
159 in the original, and Definitive Edition added roughly 30 more. That means a PS3 collectible route will leave you short on the newer version.
Does difficulty affect trophies in Mafia II?
Yes. A Hard difficulty completion is required, so it is best done on your first playthrough rather than as a second run.
Why is Mafia II Definitive Edition crashing or blocking progress?
It has more bugs than the PS3 original, including progression blockers that usually follow leaving the game in rest mode. Closing the app entirely and rebooting fixes almost all of them.
How do you get the Millionaire trophy in Jimmy's Vendetta?
You need 1,000,000 points. A documented glitch accumulates that in around four hours in a single sitting, which means you can play the DLC on Easy rather than grinding it on Hard.
Is The Enforcer trophy still unobtainable?
No. It was previously broken but was fixed on 18 June 2020, so it can be earned normally.
Do Mafia II trophies stack across versions?
Yes. The PS3 original and the PS4 Definitive Edition have separate trophy lists, so both platinums are available.
DamnModz supports PlayStation games with Platinum trophies. Choose the game and tell us what remains on your list.
