That tells us what ships on 19 November. It does not establish that GTA 6 will never receive multiplayer. Rockstar has not announced, named or dated a new online product, and nothing in its public wording rules one out later.

Those are only two historical data points. They show that Rockstar has separated a major single-player launch from its online launch before, but they do not set a GTA 6 schedule.
The key distinction is launch sequencing. GTA V was available before GTA Online, and RDR2 was available before the Red Dead Online beta. That history supports the idea that single-player first is normal for Rockstar. It does not tell us whether GTA 6 will repeat either exact gap.
Why This Time Might Be Different
Take-Two now depends heavily on recurrent consumer spending, and GTA Online remains an active business rather than a retired mode waiting to be replaced. That gives the company a reason to keep the current audience engaged until it is ready to talk about anything new. Schreier’s August comment also points to continued silence in the near term, though he was clear that this was his observation.
Forbes contributor Paul Tassi has argued that a new online experience could be “a year or two out, at least.” That is an analyst’s opinion, not a DamnModz forecast and not a Rockstar window.

What Happens to GTA Online When GTA 6 Launches?
GTA Online continues. In the 3 February 2026 earnings-call Q&A, reported by GamesRadar the following day, Zelnick said Take-Two had “every reason to believe we’ll continue to support GTA Online.” In eTeknix’s 8 August 2026 account of the company’s latest call, he said the update cadence “hasn’t really changed.” Take-Two has also sold GTA Online as a standalone product before, so a standalone format has precedent without proving anything about GTA 6.
For current players, the practical point is simple. Your existing GTA Online money, rank, businesses and vehicles remain useful inside current GTA Online after November. Nothing in Take-Two’s 2026 comments suggests that GTA 6 launch day deletes, resets or retires the current service. That matters because many players are seeing headlines that wrongly turn “single-player at launch” into “current GTA Online is ending.”

Will Your GTA Online Character Transfer to GTA 6?
No transfer is announced. Rockstar has supported migrations before, but those are historical precedents only. It enabled GTA Online character transfers from the PS3 and Xbox 360 era into newer versions beginning in 2014, ended that older transfer route in March 2017, and introduced migration from PS4 and Xbox One to PS5 and Xbox Series versions in 2022.
