Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is a Metroidvania built on gear. Swords, shields, suits, bracelets and boots each come in many versions, and plenty of them carry an ability of their own. Five Forms And A Wardrobe Full Of Answers
Jin's uncle Nabu turns the kingdom into animals, and Jin ends up as a pig. Over the adventure he collects the animal orbs and can switch between forms at will. The pig sniffs out secrets, and the snake climbs walls and squeezes through gaps. The frog swims and swings on hoops with its tongue. The lion dashes through blocks, and the dragon flies and spits fire.
Gear is the second half of the kit. Many pieces carry an ability, and finding the right one usually means a trip to a shop or a hidden chest. With every weapon, armour, shield, bracelet and pair of boots already unlocked, you equip whatever a fight or a room calls for and keep moving.
Money And Magic
Coins drop from enemies and hide in chests and coin fountains, and the game always finds a way to spend them. Shops charge for gear, Zeke runs a shop of his own, and the blacksmith charges for upgrades. Max money keeps Jin's purse full for all of it. Spells can be cast in human form or as the pig, and their uses run down until enemy drops top them up. With max magic uses, the spell bar stays stocked for boss fights.
What The 33 Trophies Ask For
Trophy guides put the platinum at 20-33 hours and rate it 4-5 out of 10. It takes one playthrough and nothing is missable. The story trophies come as you recover each form, ring the sanctuary bell and defeat Lord Xaros in the Dark Realm. The rest is collecting, and there is a lot of it.
Who Needs Life Insurance wants all 17 Life Hearts. Five silvers want every Super Truffle of each magic type, five of each. Jam Sessions asks for all of Ollie's lost music sheets. Treasure Hunter, a gold, means opening every chest in the kingdom, and guides count more than 130. Knight In Shining Armor wants every piece of the legendary golden gear forged by Foximus, from five hidden parts per piece and a thousand coins a forge. Retro sends you to the secret Cyber Dungeon in the Village of Lupia, behind hidden switches and a torch puzzle. Not All Wanderers Are Lost wants every corner of the map.

The PS4 game and the PlayStation 5 edition from December 2021 each have their own list, with the same 33 trophies on both. Choose PS4 or PS5 on the product page and we unlock that list.
