What Max XP, Ability Points And Units Change

Fights fill the XP bar, and each full bar pays out an Ability Point. Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot and Star-Lord each start with one ability. The second costs 2 points and the third costs 3. With max Ability Points you buy both the moment they appear. The fourth ability on each Guardian is still tied to the story and opens somewhere between Chapters 11 and 14.

Galactic Units are the money. They matter most in Chapter 6, when Knowhere's shops open, and again in Chapter 9, when the Nova Corps fine for trespassing in the Quarantine Zone comes due. How big that fine gets depends on what you hid from the Nova Corps back in Chapter 2. With max Units you can shop at Knowhere and still pay up.

Components And The Workbench

At a workbench, Rocket turns components into Perks for Star-Lord: passive boosts such as more health and shield regeneration. Benches sit on the Milano and along each chapter. Perks cost Basic and Advanced Components, the materials scattered through every level. Charged Shot alone costs 600 Basic and 100 Advanced. With both component types maxed, you stop sweeping every ledge and buy the Perks as soon as a bench shows them.

Combat itself doesn't change. You still swap Star-Lord's ice, lightning, wind and plasma shots, call in the team's abilities and pick the right words when the Huddle meter fills.

A Short Platinum With Long Memory

Trophy guides rate the platinum around 3 out of 10 and estimate about 20 hours in one playthrough. No trophy depends on difficulty. The catch is chapter select. Replaying a chapter loads your progress from the first time you played it, so outfits, Guardian Collectibles and compendium entries you missed don't count when you go back.

That makes every collectible trophy missable. Fashion Passion wants all 45 outfits found and equipped. Managerial Skills wants every Guardian Collectible for one Guardian. Lore Hoarder wants 65% of each Galactic Compendium category in a single run. Eat It, Rodent is gone after Chapter 1 if Rocket destroys more parasite nests than you. Galactic Frugality needs the fine paid in Chapter 9, so a big spree at Knowhere can cost you a second run. Fully Loaded, every ability on all five Guardians, can't pop before Chapter 14 and sometimes bugs out.
