Four Skill Trees, Thousands Of Points
Zachariah has four skill trees. Technomancer powers up the lightning that electrifies your weapon and throws bolts. Rogue covers the pistol, the dagger and quick dodges. Warrior is the staff, and Guardian is the mace and shield. Each tree takes 24 skill points to complete, so maxing all four costs 96.
The save holds 6,865. You don't have to play Extreme with a blank skill screen while you wait for level 25, and you never have to choose between surviving now and completing the trees later.
Talents, Attributes And Serum
Talents are the non-combat side. Charisma passes dialogue checks, Crafting improves your upgrades, and Exploration lets you skin creatures. Traps and Lockpicking opens the better chests, Science helps healing, and Stealth helps you take enemies out unseen. Each talent has three levels, so 8 points can take two talents to the top with two left over. Of the four attributes, Strength, Agility and Power gate higher-tier armour, guns and daggers, and Technomancer gear, while Constitution adds health and carrying weight.
Money on Mars is serum. You spend it on gear, upgrade plans and crafting materials, and even on fixing Amelia's rover. Max money means you can buy the plans and materials for any upgrade you want.
Extreme, The Hardest Setting
Extreme is the hardest difficulty, and it is open from the first menu. Finishing the story on it unlocks Extreme survivor, a gold, and trophy guides note it also pops the Normal and Hard trophies, Traveler and Tough to beat. That is why guides start there. The same guides warn that enemies hit harder and companions barely survive, which is exactly where a pile of skill points helps.
What The 41 Trophies Ask For
Trophy guides rate the platinum 6 out of 10 and estimate around 30 hours in one playthrough, if you keep backup saves. Chapter 3 makes you pick two allies from four factions: the Vory, the Ophir army, the Noctis merchants and the opposition. Each faction has its own trophy, so guides reload to collect all four. The three endings, a return to Abundance, joining Noctis or joining Mutant Valley, come from one choice after the Leviathan fight.
Best friend wants every companion quest from Chapters 1 to 3, for Jeffrey, Phobos, Andrew, Scott, Niesha and Amelia. Andrew, Niesha and Amelia each have a romance trophy. Bad Karma wants your karma at rock bottom, usually done on a separate save. Then come the counters: 100 equipment upgrades, the arena championship at Curiosity's, and 200 hits each with staff, pistol, shield parries, lightning and humanoid knockouts.
