When Can You Unlock Empyros in MW4?
Empyros becomes available in Season 1 alongside the integration of Modern Warfare 4 weapons into Warzone. It cannot be earned through the Warzone Mastery ladder at the game's October 23 Multiplayer and DMZ launch.
Before Season 1, players can begin the shared weapon-camo path through Multiplayer or DMZ. Digital-preorder DMZ early access starts October 20, and the full Multiplayer and DMZ release follows on October 23. That earlier progression can prepare weapons for the eventual Warzone ladder, but it does not unlock Empyros ahead of time.
Empyros is a camo applied to weapons. It is not an Operator character, Operator skin or player-level Prestige reward.
How to Unlock Empyros
Empyros completes the three-stage Warzone Mastery sequence. The progression runs as follows:
- Level your weapons to unlock Military camos.
- Complete Special camo challenges through the shared camo system.
- Earn Gold, Platinum, Harmonic Break and Divergence in the Completionist chain.
- When Season 1 activates Warzone Mastery, complete Parallax, the first Warzone mastery challenge.
- Complete Damascus Reforged to open the final stage.
- Finish the Empyros Warzone Mastery challenge.
Divergence opens the first Mastery stage, but it does not skip the two Warzone camos before Empyros.
Empyros Requirement and Weapon Count
Empyros is Warzone Mastery 3, unlocked after completing Damascus Reforged. Its Season 1 challenge objective has not been announced. Select Empyros in the Warzone camo menu when the ladder opens to see the active conditions.
The shared Military, Special and Completionist stages are prerequisites. Empyros itself belongs to Warzone, not the Multiplayer, DMZ or player Prestige progression.
How Long Does Empyros Take?
The full Empyros path includes weapon leveling, Special camos, the Gold-to-Divergence Completionist chain and all three Warzone Mastery challenges.
A player entering Season 1 with the shared camo foundation complete has a shorter remaining path than someone starting with fresh weapons. The Warzone-specific objectives determine the rest of the work, so there is no fixed completion time to plan around.
Warzone Tips for the Empyros Grind
Prepare for the Warzone ladder without confusing it with other mastery tracks:
- Complete shared prerequisites. Military, Special and Completionist progression comes before Warzone Mastery.
- Follow the tiers in order. Parallax opens Damascus Reforged, which opens Empyros.
- Check the active Warzone challenge. Confirm its eligible playlists before choosing Battle Royale or Resurgence.
- Keep mode rewards separate. Orion Reforged finishes Multiplayer and Helio finishes DMZ. Neither replaces the Empyros Warzone objective.
