Keeping the Memory Quest in Arc Raiders – Location & Mission Guide
Note: This guide shows confirmed Rusted Gear sources and practical farming routes. Drops are randomized and can change after updates. It does not cover every loot container, every workshop upgrade material, or PvP loadout metas.

Rusted Gear in ARC Raiders is a Rare recyclable used to upgrade the Gunsmith from Level 2 to Level 3. If you are stuck, it usually comes down to searching the wrong container types, or losing the item before you get back to Speranza.

This guide is for Raiders who want a repeatable way to find Rusted Gear without wasting raids on low value loot pools.

You will get the confirmed container types that can drop Rusted Gear, plus the best map routes to check them fast. You will not get a guaranteed spawn point, because Rusted Gear is still RNG.

Rusted Gear Assumptions

Assumptions
Platform: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
Mode: Online Topside Raids
Squad Size: Solo, Duo, Trio
Input: Controller Or Mouse And Keyboard
Build Context: Live Game As Of February 2026
Rusted Gear Containers

Cars, Buses, Generators

High

If you are not breaching the right container types, you are not even rolling for Rusted Gear.

Rusted Gear Safe Pocket

Keep It After Knockout

High

Most failed farms happen because the first Rusted Gear drop gets lost before you get it home.

Rusted Gear Buried City Route

NW Warehouse Loop

Medium

A container dense loop that stacks a lot of car and generator breaches into one run.

Rusted Gear Decision Forks

Use these to avoid doing extra steps you do not need.

  1. If you found Rusted Gear but keep losing it on death: go to Rusted Gear Safe Pocket.
  2. If you are not seeing many breachable vehicles or generators: go to Rusted Gear Buried City Route.
  3. If you keep getting Rusted Tools instead of Rusted Gear: go to Rusted Gear Spaceport Route or Rusted Gear Blue Gate Route.
  4. If Blue Gate is too contested for your raids: go to Rusted Gear Dam Battlegrounds Route.

Rusted Gear Containers

Type: Root Cause Fix.

Rusted Gear is tied to Industrial scavenging sources. If you focus your breaches on the right container types, your odds improve simply because you are rolling the correct loot pool more often.

🧰
Confirmed Rusted Gear Sources

These container types are listed as Rusted Gear scavenging sources.

  • Buses
  • Car Hoods
  • Car Tool Cabinets
  • Mobile Generators
  • Control Panels
  • Metal Crates
  • Industrial Drawers
  1. Pick a route that passes through an Industrial location (warehouse, vehicle yard, scrap yard).
  2. Prioritize breaches on vehicles first (buses and any car with a breachable hood).
  3. Then breach nearby Mobile Generators, Control Panels, Metal Crates, and Industrial Drawers in the same area.
  4. Skip low relevance buildings if your only goal is Rusted Gear.
  5. When Rusted Gear drops, secure it immediately using the Safe Pocket steps in the next section.
What You Should Notice: You are opening far more Rusted Gear eligible containers per raid, instead of relying on random loot rooms.
Stop Here If Fixed: If you got the Rusted Gear you need, extract and upgrade before doing more farming.

Rusted Gear Safe Pocket

Type: Symptom Reducer.

Rusted Gear is rare enough that one knockout can erase a whole run. Your Safe Pocket Slot is the simplest way to keep progress even when a raid goes bad.

Important: Free Loadout uses the Free Loadout Augment, and that removes your Safe Pocket Slot.

  1. In Speranza, open your Loadout screen.
  2. Select a Custom Loadout (or go with no augment) so you have at least one Safe Pocket Slot.
  3. Avoid Free Loadout when farming Rusted Gear (the Free Loadout Augment removes your Safe Pocket Slot).
  4. Before you start breaching cars, keep one Safe Pocket Slot empty.
  5. When you loot Rusted Gear, move it into the Safe Pocket Slot immediately.
What You Should Notice: After a knockout, Rusted Gear stored in your Safe Pocket Slot is still there when you return to Speranza.

How To Undo It

  1. Open your Loadout screen.
  2. Select Free Loadout if you intentionally want the free kit again.
  3. Confirm the Safe Pocket Slot is removed on that loadout.
Stop Here If Fixed: If your main problem was losing Rusted Gear on death, stop and farm your preferred route until you have enough.

Rusted Gear Buried City Route

Type: Root Cause Fix.

This loop works because it packs a lot of car and generator breaches into one area. On Buried City, standard extraction points are Underground Metro Stations, so you can finish the loop and leave quickly.

Risk Note: The Parking Garage can be dangerous. A Bombardier may patrol the upper floor or nearby street, so treat the last part of the loop as a higher risk area.

  1. Queue into Buried City.
  2. Head to Warehouse in the northwest section.
  3. Breach the two Mobile Generators on the east side of the Warehouse building.
  4. Rotate to Marano Station and clear the north car park.
  5. Breach every Car Hood you can in that parking area.
  6. Move to the Parking Garage and breach the cars on each floor.
  7. Once you have the Rusted Gear you need, extract at the nearest Metro Station.
What You Should Notice: You have opened a high number of Rusted Gear eligible cars and generators in a single run.
Stop Here If Fixed: If you have enough Rusted Gear for your upgrade, extract and upgrade before farming more.

Rusted Gear Blue Gate Route

Type: Root Cause Fix.

Blue Gate has consistent vehicle density in the Checkpoint and Warehouse zones. It also tends to have higher player traffic, so treat this as a fast in, fast out farm with a clear extraction plan.

Extraction Tip: The Blue Gate standard extraction points are Airshafts. When you secure Rusted Gear, heading straight to an Airshaft reduces your exposure time.

  1. Queue into The Blue Gate.
  2. Run to Checkpoint and prioritize buses and Car Hoods.
  3. Clear nearby Metal Crates, Control Panels, and Industrial Drawers.
  4. Rotate into the Warehouse zone and repeat the same vehicle first pattern.
  5. Extract at an Airshaft once you have what you need.
What You Should Notice: You are repeatedly hitting high density vehicle clusters, which increases how many Rusted Gear rolls you get per raid.
Stop Here If Fixed: If you got the Rusted Gear you need, extract instead of pushing deeper into contested zones.

Rusted Gear Spaceport Route

Type: Root Cause Fix.

Spaceport has Industrial heavy zones where the correct container types are common. Standard extraction points on Spaceport are Cargo Elevators, so plan your exit before you start breaching.

  1. Queue into Spaceport.
  2. Start at Vehicle Maintenance and breach vehicles and Mobile Generators first.
  3. Rotate to Rocket Assembly and repeat the same container pattern.
  4. Stay focused on Industrial containers instead of detouring into unrelated zones.
  5. Extract at a Cargo Elevator when you are done.
What You Should Notice: Two Industrial focused zones give you a lot of eligible breaches per run, even if drops are still random.
Stop Here If Fixed: If you secure Rusted Gear in your Safe Pocket Slot, you can leave immediately instead of trying to double your luck.

Rusted Gear Dam Battlegrounds Route

Type: Root Cause Fix.

Dam Battlegrounds has multiple Industrial zones that can roll Rusted Gear. It can be less consistent than a tight Buried City loop, but it is a good option if you want multiple Industrial areas in one raid.

Extraction Tip: Dam Battlegrounds standard extraction points are Cargo Elevators.

  1. Queue into Dam Battlegrounds.
  2. Start at Scrap Yard and breach vehicles first.
  3. Rotate to the Hydroponic Dome Complex or Power Generation Complex and clear Mobile Generators, Control Panels, and Metal Crates.
  4. Finish at Water Treatment Control and sweep remaining Industrial containers.
  5. Extract at the nearest Cargo Elevator.
What You Should Notice: You are chaining multiple Industrial zones together, which increases total Rusted Gear eligible container checks per raid.
Stop Here If Fixed: If you only needed one more Rusted Gear, stop farming and upgrade as soon as you get it.

Rusted Gear Troubleshooting

Type: Diagnosis.

Use this when you are doing runs and Rusted Gear still is not showing up.

  1. Confirm you are breaching the correct sources first (buses, car hoods, generators, and other Industrial containers).
  2. If you are using Free Loadout: switch to a Custom Loadout so you have a Safe Pocket Slot, then re-run your route.
  3. If you keep getting Rusted Tools: switch to a higher density route like Rusted Gear Buried City Route or Rusted Gear Spaceport Route.
  4. If player traffic keeps interrupting you: choose Dam Battlegrounds loops and hit outer vehicles first, then rotate inward only if it is quiet.
  5. Stop the moment you have enough Rusted Gear. Upgrade your Gunsmith before you farm extra.
What You Should Notice: Your raids become focused on the correct loot pool, and you stop losing your first Rusted Gear drop to avoidable deaths.
Stop Here If Fixed: If you get your Rusted Gear after switching containers, route, or Safe Pocket usage, stop and bank the progress.
