Keeping the Memory Quest in Arc Raiders – Location & Mission Guide
Rusted Gear in ARC Raiders is a Rare recyclable used to upgrade the Gunsmith from Level 2 to Level 3. If you are stuck, it usually comes down to searching the wrong container types, or losing the item before you get back to Speranza.
This guide is for Raiders who want a repeatable way to find Rusted Gear without wasting raids on low value loot pools.
You will get the confirmed container types that can drop Rusted Gear, plus the best map routes to check them fast. You will not get a guaranteed spawn point, because Rusted Gear is still RNG.
Rusted Gear Assumptions
Cars, Buses, Generators
If you are not breaching the right container types, you are not even rolling for Rusted Gear.
Keep It After Knockout
Most failed farms happen because the first Rusted Gear drop gets lost before you get it home.
NW Warehouse Loop
A container dense loop that stacks a lot of car and generator breaches into one run.
Rusted Gear Decision Forks
Use these to avoid doing extra steps you do not need.
- If you found Rusted Gear but keep losing it on death: go to Rusted Gear Safe Pocket.
- If you are not seeing many breachable vehicles or generators: go to Rusted Gear Buried City Route.
- If you keep getting Rusted Tools instead of Rusted Gear: go to Rusted Gear Spaceport Route or Rusted Gear Blue Gate Route.
- If Blue Gate is too contested for your raids: go to Rusted Gear Dam Battlegrounds Route.
Rusted Gear Containers
Type: Root Cause Fix.
Rusted Gear is tied to Industrial scavenging sources. If you focus your breaches on the right container types, your odds improve simply because you are rolling the correct loot pool more often.
These container types are listed as Rusted Gear scavenging sources.
- Buses
- Car Hoods
- Car Tool Cabinets
- Mobile Generators
- Control Panels
- Metal Crates
- Industrial Drawers
- Pick a route that passes through an Industrial location (warehouse, vehicle yard, scrap yard).
- Prioritize breaches on vehicles first (buses and any car with a breachable hood).
- Then breach nearby Mobile Generators, Control Panels, Metal Crates, and Industrial Drawers in the same area.
- Skip low relevance buildings if your only goal is Rusted Gear.
- When Rusted Gear drops, secure it immediately using the Safe Pocket steps in the next section.
Rusted Gear Safe Pocket
Type: Symptom Reducer.
Rusted Gear is rare enough that one knockout can erase a whole run. Your Safe Pocket Slot is the simplest way to keep progress even when a raid goes bad.
Important: Free Loadout uses the Free Loadout Augment, and that removes your Safe Pocket Slot.
- In Speranza, open your Loadout screen.
- Select a Custom Loadout (or go with no augment) so you have at least one Safe Pocket Slot.
- Avoid Free Loadout when farming Rusted Gear (the Free Loadout Augment removes your Safe Pocket Slot).
- Before you start breaching cars, keep one Safe Pocket Slot empty.
- When you loot Rusted Gear, move it into the Safe Pocket Slot immediately.
How To Undo It
- Open your Loadout screen.
- Select Free Loadout if you intentionally want the free kit again.
- Confirm the Safe Pocket Slot is removed on that loadout.
Rusted Gear Buried City Route
Type: Root Cause Fix.
This loop works because it packs a lot of car and generator breaches into one area. On Buried City, standard extraction points are Underground Metro Stations, so you can finish the loop and leave quickly.
Risk Note: The Parking Garage can be dangerous. A Bombardier may patrol the upper floor or nearby street, so treat the last part of the loop as a higher risk area.
- Queue into Buried City.
- Head to Warehouse in the northwest section.
- Breach the two Mobile Generators on the east side of the Warehouse building.
- Rotate to Marano Station and clear the north car park.
- Breach every Car Hood you can in that parking area.
- Move to the Parking Garage and breach the cars on each floor.
- Once you have the Rusted Gear you need, extract at the nearest Metro Station.
Rusted Gear Blue Gate Route
Type: Root Cause Fix.
Blue Gate has consistent vehicle density in the Checkpoint and Warehouse zones. It also tends to have higher player traffic, so treat this as a fast in, fast out farm with a clear extraction plan.
Extraction Tip: The Blue Gate standard extraction points are Airshafts. When you secure Rusted Gear, heading straight to an Airshaft reduces your exposure time.
- Queue into The Blue Gate.
- Run to Checkpoint and prioritize buses and Car Hoods.
- Clear nearby Metal Crates, Control Panels, and Industrial Drawers.
- Rotate into the Warehouse zone and repeat the same vehicle first pattern.
- Extract at an Airshaft once you have what you need.
Rusted Gear Spaceport Route
Type: Root Cause Fix.
Spaceport has Industrial heavy zones where the correct container types are common. Standard extraction points on Spaceport are Cargo Elevators, so plan your exit before you start breaching.
- Queue into Spaceport.
- Start at Vehicle Maintenance and breach vehicles and Mobile Generators first.
- Rotate to Rocket Assembly and repeat the same container pattern.
- Stay focused on Industrial containers instead of detouring into unrelated zones.
- Extract at a Cargo Elevator when you are done.
Rusted Gear Dam Battlegrounds Route
Type: Root Cause Fix.
Dam Battlegrounds has multiple Industrial zones that can roll Rusted Gear. It can be less consistent than a tight Buried City loop, but it is a good option if you want multiple Industrial areas in one raid.
Extraction Tip: Dam Battlegrounds standard extraction points are Cargo Elevators.
- Queue into Dam Battlegrounds.
- Start at Scrap Yard and breach vehicles first.
- Rotate to the Hydroponic Dome Complex or Power Generation Complex and clear Mobile Generators, Control Panels, and Metal Crates.
- Finish at Water Treatment Control and sweep remaining Industrial containers.
- Extract at the nearest Cargo Elevator.
Rusted Gear Troubleshooting
Type: Diagnosis.
Use this when you are doing runs and Rusted Gear still is not showing up.
- Confirm you are breaching the correct sources first (buses, car hoods, generators, and other Industrial containers).
- If you are using Free Loadout: switch to a Custom Loadout so you have a Safe Pocket Slot, then re-run your route.
- If you keep getting Rusted Tools: switch to a higher density route like Rusted Gear Buried City Route or Rusted Gear Spaceport Route.
- If player traffic keeps interrupting you: choose Dam Battlegrounds loops and hit outer vehicles first, then rotate inward only if it is quiet.
- Stop the moment you have enough Rusted Gear. Upgrade your Gunsmith before you farm extra.
ARC Raiders Rusted Gear FAQs
Rusted Gear drops from Industrial scavenging sources. Focus your runs on vehicles and Industrial containers in zones like Warehouse areas, Checkpoint style vehicle clusters, and Spaceport Industrial buildings.
Confirmed sources include buses, car hoods, car tool cabinets, mobile generators, control panels, metal crates, and industrial drawers.
No. Cars are a confirmed source, but the drop is still randomized. The strategy is to breach many cars per raid, not to hunt one specific car.
Buried City has a very repeatable northwest loop because it stacks Warehouse generators and dense car clusters near Marano Station and the Parking Garage.
You need 3 Rusted Gear for the Gunsmith Level 2 to Level 3 upgrade.
Yes, that is the point of using your Safe Pocket Slot for high value items like Rusted Gear. Move it there immediately after looting it.
Yes. Free Loadout equips the Free Loadout Augment, and that removes your Safe Pocket Slot.
The reliable pattern is Industrial sources. You can waste a lot of time searching unrelated loot pools, so treat Industrial vehicles and containers as the priority.
They share similar sources, but Rusted Gear is rarer. Increase how many eligible vehicles and generators you breach per raid, and use Buried City or Spaceport routes to stack more checks.
Rusted Gear is treated as a scavenged upgrade item. The practical way to get it is to farm the listed Industrial sources and extract, or Safe Pocket it.
