All GTA 5 Missions in Order – Full List
A lot of GTA 5 mission lists get messy for one reason. They mix required story missions, route-only heist setups, optional family calls, and finale choices into one flat list.
That confuses players replaying Story Mode, writers building walkthroughs, and anyone trying to understand why one source says 69 missions while another says 83.
This page fixes that with a clean GTA 5 missions in order sheet. It uses exact mission titles, keeps approach names in badges instead of fake titles, and shows where the story legitimately forks.
It does not try to be a full walkthrough. It is a fact-checked order sheet for GTA 5 single-player Story Mode.
GTA 5 Mission Assumptions
This order assumes the base GTA 5 single-player campaign. The sequence is the same across Story Mode versions, while GTA Online content is out of scope.
GTA 5 Mission Count
The conflicting mission totals are a counting problem, not a naming problem. Rockstar’s own checklist tracks 69 missions, but broader story sheets reach 83 because they count alternate heist paths, all three endings, and optional checklist missions that do not all fit into one uninterrupted save.
A single max-content run reaches 74 mission entries. That happens when you take the longer eligible branches and include the optional family missions. The graph below keeps those three totals separate so the article does not flatten different counting rules into one number.
Different GTA 5 mission lists give different totals, which makes the order look wrong even when the mission names are correct.
Branch-exclusive heist setups, three possible endings, optional family missions, and Rockstar’s separate checklist rules all change the visible count.
Pulling Favors is shown elsewhere as a required gate note. It is not part of the 83-entry story sheet.
Checklist View removes Fire Truck, BZ Gas Grenades, and the three family missions from the selected run total.
GTA 5 Mission Forks
Only a few moments actually fork the story sheet. After Father/Son, Pulling Favors gates story progress even though it is a Strangers & Freaks mission. Later, heist routes split setups and finales, and Franklin’s last choice splits the ending.
Use Story Path when you only want the next required mission. Use Current Run when you want one save file planned cleanly. Use All 83 when you need every real story-related entry, including mutually exclusive branches.
Ignore the optional family missions and the optional Lester missions. Choose one route at each heist split and keep moving forward.
Keep the optional missions on the sheet and use the run counter. You will still only see one route per heist and one ending in that save.
Use All 83 view. That mode shows the alternate routes together, but it is a documentation view, not a one-save play path.
- Pick your routes in the run counter.
- Decide whether the family missions belong in your active save.
- Decide whether the optional Lester missions belong in your active save.
- Switch the mission list to Story Path, Current Run, or All 83.
How To Undo It
- Reset the route buttons.
- Switch the list back to All 83 if you want the broadest reference sheet.
GTA 5 Mission Order
The list below uses exact mission titles. Route labels sit in badges, so you will see Gauntlet as the title, not a fake title like Gauntlet (1-3). The same rule applies to The Jewel Store Job, The Merryweather Heist, The Bureau Raid, and The Big Score.
Some missions can become available at the same time. This sheet follows a clean chronological story order and keeps each character chain in sequence.
GTA 5 Opening Missions
This is the Franklin and Michael setup stretch. It runs from Prologue through the first major heist and includes the Pulling Favors gate note that many flat lists miss.
Complete Pulling Favors after Father/Son to keep the main story moving. It is required for progress, but it is not part of the 83-entry story sheet.
GTA 5 Blaine County Missions
This stretch unlocks Trevor, folds the three protagonists together, and carries the list through The Merryweather Heist and the Lester handoff.
GTA 5 Midgame Missions
This is the densest linear block in the game. It covers Blitz Play, the Devin Weston run, Paleto Bay, and the Michael-Trevor fallout.
GTA 5 Bureau Missions
This stretch resolves the FIB thread, the family reset, and the run-up to the final Union Depository plan.
GTA 5 Finale Missions
This is the last branch-heavy segment. The setup route you choose changes which prep missions appear, and Franklin’s final choice changes the last mission.
GTA 5 Optional Lester Missions & Assassination Missions
Not every real GTA 5 mission is mandatory for story progression. The Good Husband, Doting Dad, and Parenting 101 are optional family missions. The Multi Target Assassination, The Vice Assassination, The Bus Assassination, and The Construction Assassination are optional Lester missions after The Hotel Assassination.
Those entries still matter when you are building a complete sheet. They just should not be mistaken for hard gates in the main story path.
- The Good Husband
- Doting Dad
- Parenting 101
- The Multi Target Assassination
- The Vice Assassination
- The Bus Assassination
- The Construction Assassination
- Finish The Hotel Assassination when the story forces it.
- Leave the later Lester assassinations until after the main story if you want the common stock-market route.
- Play the family missions when the calls appear if you want the fullest one-save mission sheet.
- Keep them out of Story Path if you only want progression.
How To Undo It
- Turn off the optional toggles.
- Switch back to Story Path if you only care about progression.
