GTA Online Heist Guide: How to Plan and Launch
Starting a heist in GTA 5 Online is more confusing than it used to be. “Heist” now points to four separate systems, and each one unlocks from a different property or contact.
That catches new players, returning players, and anyone following old guides that tell you to buy the wrong building. This article fixes that by showing the exact host path for the original apartment heists, The Doomsday Heist, The Diamond Casino Heist, and The Cayo Perico Heist.
You will also get one fast crew-only shortcut if you do not want to host. Everything below is written around the live GTA Online flow, not old Story Mode heist logic.
GTA 5 Heist Assumptions
High-End Apartment
The original GTA Online host path starts at Rank 12 with a High-End Apartment, a Heist planning room, Lester’s intro, and The Fleeca Job.
Facility
This is a separate heist line. It starts from a Facility, not a Bunker, and begins with The Data Breaches.
Arcade
This path starts after the Mirror Park meeting with Lester, an Arcade purchase, and the one-time Setup: Equipment mission.
Kosatka
This is the clean solo path. Meet Miguel Madrazo at The Music Locker, buy the Kosatka, then start Gather Intel.

GTA Online Quick Join
What It Solves: This is the fastest low-risk path if you do not want to buy a property first.
Type: Join path.
- Load into GTA Online.
- Open your iFruit phone.
- Select Quick Join.
- Choose a heist option that matches the activity you want to join.
- Accept the matchmaking invite when the host lobby appears.
GTA Online Apartment Heists
What It Starts: The original GTA Online heist strand.
Type: Root cause unlock.
Crew Size: The Fleeca Job uses 2 players. The later original heists use 4 players.
- Reach Rank 12 in GTA Online.
- Buy a High-End Apartment from Dynasty 8.
- Wait for Lester to contact you if this is your first hosted original heist.
- Go to Lester’s garment factory when the intro step appears.
- Enter your apartment’s Heist planning room.
- Use the planning board to start The Fleeca Job.
GTA Online Doomsday Heist
What It Starts: The separate Facility-based heist line.
Type: Root cause unlock.
Crew Size: Every mission in this heist line can be played with 2 to 4 players.
- Buy a Facility from Maze Bank Foreclosures.
- Meet Lester when the Doomsday intro opens.
- Enter your Facility and start The Data Breaches.
- Complete the act’s required missions until the finale unlocks.
- Launch the finale from your Facility once the act is ready.
GTA Online Diamond Casino Heist
What It Starts: The Arcade-based casino heist line.
Type: Root cause unlock.
Crew Size: This heist supports 2 to 4 players.
- Meet Lester Crest at Mirror Park.
- Buy an Arcade from Maze Bank Foreclosures.
- Finish Setup: Equipment.
- Go to the basement planning area inside your Arcade.
- Run Setup: Casino Scoping.
- Run Heist Prep: Vault Contents.
- Choose Aggressive, The Big Con, or Silent & Sneaky.
- Complete the required Prep works and launch the finale.
GTA Online Cayo Perico Heist
What It Starts: The solo-capable Kosatka heist line.
Type: Root cause unlock.
Crew Size: This heist can be started solo or with up to three other players.
- Meet Miguel Madrazo at The Music Locker.
- Buy the Kosatka from Warstock Cache & Carry.
- Return to the Kosatka and start Gather Intel.
- Complete one Approach Vehicle prep.
- Complete the mandatory Equipment preps.
- Complete Weapon Loadout.
- Launch the finale from the Kosatka.
GTA 5 Heist Checks
What It Solves: This section catches the most common wrong-property and wrong-intro mistakes.
Type: Diagnosis.
- If you want the original heists, confirm Rank 12, a High-End Apartment, Lester’s call, and the garment factory intro.
- If you want The Doomsday Heist, confirm you bought a Facility. A Bunker does not unlock it.
- If you want The Diamond Casino Heist, confirm you bought an Arcade and finished Setup: Equipment. A Casino Penthouse does not unlock it.
- If you want The Cayo Perico Heist, confirm you met Miguel at The Music Locker and then bought the Kosatka.
- Re-enter the correct property after each missing requirement is done and check the heist area again.
